To swim whilst menstruating?

So funny light hearted conversation with sister and friend Friday and totally random.
I swim every Friday evening with my other half and my dc.
My sister told me it was vile for me to swim whilst bleeding. My friend disagrees and said it fine.
I did go swimming as my period was pretty much over (day 5). Would I swim whilst heavy? I would say no I wouldn’t. Would you?
Sister says it’s not fair on others swimming and friend says she’s wouldn’t care. Are there actually any rules about it? Would you? Would a tamping be suitable if you did want to swim? I’m not sure about others but if I bath whilst using a tampon it will eventually fill up with water and expand rapidly! Confused or is it just me?? Would you swim during your period?

If you are going to swim please use a tampon.

Llanali · 20/05/2018 09:45

Of course, with either a tampon or a mooncup.

PalePinkSwan · 20/05/2018 09:46

Of course people swim on their period, and of course they wear tampons.

FissionChips · 20/05/2018 09:46

How is your tampon filling with water? Confused that can’t be normal.

my2bundles · 20/05/2018 09:48

Wear a tampon or moon up or don't swim.

Carycach100 · 20/05/2018 09:48

fissionchips foofs are not watertight

JennyOnAPlate · 20/05/2018 09:49

Yes with a tampon. Swimming on your period without a tampon is fucking rank.

Carycach100 · 20/05/2018 09:49

I i think the colder water is supposed to stem the flow too

awomensworkisneverdone · 20/05/2018 09:50

I have no idea fission but it just does. When removing it it’s full with water. I don’t know if it’s slipped down whilst bathing? But happens a lot.

I swim but wear a tampon. I know what you mean about the filling with water mines does too and grossed me out a bit (pool water definitely doesn’t belong up there!).

SilverHairedCat · 20/05/2018 09:51

I wear tampons and swim whilst wearing them, with no issues of "filling".

Are you saying you swim without using anything when you have your period? Because that would be grim. Using a tampon or mooncup is common sense.

KirstenRaymonde · 20/05/2018 09:51

Swimming on your period is fine, but I don’t know why you’d be doing it without a tampon.

Grilledaubergines · 20/05/2018 09:51

I wouldn’t but that’s because even with a tampon when I stand up from the bath I have watery blood running down my leg and my tampon is water-logged. Do it would be too risky for me.

awomensworkisneverdone · 20/05/2018 09:51

Omg! Relief! I actually started to freak out then thinking it’s just me.
Iv also heard whilst In the water the flow will stop. Not that Iv experienced this though.

Don't swim without a moon cup or tampon, it's disgusting, no one wants your bodily fluids in their face, this also extends to peeing in pools.

dementedpixie · 20/05/2018 09:52

Of course you can swim when you have your period. I use a tampon.

leighdinglady · 20/05/2018 09:52

Are you saying you'd swim without a tampon? That would be grim.

somesetmeadow · 20/05/2018 09:52

I don’t use anything. It’s fine. Cold water stops blood.

greenlynx · 20/05/2018 09:52

Of course, people swim wearing tampons during their period.

NorthernLurker · 20/05/2018 09:53

No wonder our public swimming pools have to have so much chlorine in them with people like the op around!

awomensworkisneverdone · 20/05/2018 09:53

No i swam on my last day of bleeding.. we are talking a drop (if that) I wouldn’t swim without a tampon if I was mid cycle.

Me?? I wasn’t bleeding!
I asked if you would or should and how to deal with a filling tampon.

dementedpixie · 20/05/2018 09:54

Is it not a myth that cold water stops blood?. It probably just oozes out and is diluted by pool water. Use a tampon or moon cup

JacquesHammer · 20/05/2018 09:55

If you’re on your lightest, spotting days then YANBU.

I free bleed on my lightest days
