With only 39%ish of the vote how can Sturgeon claim to have a mandate for indyref2 now.

Please no more elections!

Me too. Great news although it comes at the cost of more Tory seats. But I said on another thread that if I lived in Scotland I'd vote for whoever could beat the SNP, even the Tories, as I'd put the future of the Union above all else. I also rate Ruth Davidson. Can she lead the Brexit negotiations?

Just hope that we don't have another election in 6 months' time and it all gets reversed.

Yes because Tories are so much better eh. Hmm

Delighted to be rid of Salmond, Nicholson, Sheik and Robertson and my constituency went back to Lib Dem. This must kill indyref 2

I liked having a massive snp contingent to remind Westminster we bloody exist up here.

Yes when the SNP is the alternative.

"Please no more elections"

I don't understand why anyone would choose to not have choice

Report
LagunaBubbles · 09/06/2017 08:42

I would never think the Tories would be a better alternative to the SNP. So we will have to disagree on that. The SNP are still in Scottish Gov. They have also won 35 seats to represent Scotland at Westminster. More than all the other parties out together. Before 2015 the maximum seats the SNP had there was 11. So of course losing seats is disappointing but its hardly a disaster.

The fact that Scotland would rather have the rape clause, NHS privatisation, hard brexit, food banks and benefits sanctions rather than have the choice of independance is short sighted and utterly moronic. Indyref2 was the time to say no to independance. Not this election. Voting to not have a choice - baffling

Report
LagunaBubbles · 09/06/2017 08:53

Agree with you there Sunshine. And pointless as Indy ref 2 will still go ahead at some point in the future.

Laguna do you consider this gives Sturgeon the right to claim there is a mandate for a second referendum?

What is baffling is why the result of indyref 1 apparently doesn't count.

Fluffyears

Representation in Westminster is fine but it was a huge over-representation that bothered people when almost 10% of MOs were SNP and Scotland is not 10% of the UK...

Agree with @sunshinegirls entirely. Some thrawn and short sighted voters.

YANBU.

Delighted to be getting rid of the SNP in Scotland.

Slowly but surely.

This is a NO to Indy ref 2.

Purge the Sturge.

Well clearly I do. It's been passed in the Scottish parliament. They won the election. So why wouldn't it? If people like yourself are so sure it would be a No vote then you have nothing to worry about.

So much for 2014 being a once in a generation vote! As was repeatedly stated by SNP leaders.

The reason that i said no more elections is Scotland has had something like 7 elections in 3/4 years. There needs to be stability more than anything else. Constantly changing financial policies will not do anyone any good.

And hopefully the SNP will get back to the day job!

No its bloody idiotic. Scotland has been protected from the worst excesses of the Tories in England until now.

People are short sighted fools. And i am not an SNP voter

Hello not sure how you think the fact that the SNP have won the election in Scotland with more than double the seats of the Tories and are still the Scottish Gov means you are "getting rid" of the SNP....

Report
dinosaursandtea · 09/06/2017 09:07

Gutted about the SNP losses - although we were never going to see a repeat of 2015 - but they are still the largest party in Scotland AND are in power at Holyrood and did well in local elections.

However, as a pro-Indy voter (English but settled in Scotland) I don't think it's the worst thing to bench it for a while and prioritise other issues - make the case by being even better in govt than they already are. Wait for this last gasp of unionism to die off and then look at it again in 5 or 10 years.

Unfortunately the day job is banging on about independence to the exclusion of anything else.
