Sunbathing in a bikini in the garden. Is it indecent?

Once it's genuinely hot I always get my bikini on and lie on my sun lounger getting a tan.

I wear a bikini top and shorts.

Would you consider this okay? Or a bit inappropriate for an overlooked back garden?

I'm never going to stop doing it though. It's not every day we have sun in the UK. grin

I think it's fine. You're in your own garden

MissBax Fri 26-May-17 13:44:17

How is it inappropriate? I sunbathe topless all the time and would do so naked if my DP didnt protest so much 😂 crack on!

RaspberryOverloadsOnIcepops Fri 26-May-17 13:45:11

If it's okay on a beach (and people can often be seen to wear far worse) then a garden should be fine in shorts and bikini top.

ShatnersBassoon Fri 26-May-17 13:45:55

It's perfectly fine. It's the same level of nudity as a man taking his shirt off in the garden.

Not inappropriate, but you are risking skin cancer

gincamelbak Fri 26-May-17 13:47:08

Sometimes i strip down to my bra and pants to sit in the garden. I don't really care if I'm overlooked although I do put clothes back on if I have to answer the door.

It makes sense in my own head.

Seenoevil Fri 26-May-17 13:48:42

I'm doing it now grin

Yukbuck Fri 26-May-17 13:49:24

Not unreasonable.

itsallgoing did the op state she isn't putting sun lotion on?

Aridane Fri 26-May-17 13:52:58

I would like to do this but would feel embarrassed if my neighbours saw me (though I wouldn't with strangers). Also my (town) garden seems to have lots of creepy crawlies that sends me into a state of high alert rather than dozy warm relaxation.

Would like to garden in skimpy clothing but really don;t want to inflict that sight on others

Me too seenoevil wink just out of sight of the builders doing the roof over the road...

Doobigetta Fri 26-May-17 13:55:16

Absolutely fine. Enjoy the sunshine! smile

It's your garden, do as you wish.

She stated that she was planning to tan.

"While many people associate a tan with looking healthy, a tan is actually a sign that our skin has been harmed by UV radiation and is trying to defend itself against further damage. This kind of damage can in turn increase your risk of developing skin cancer"

Back garden yes. Not like my former neighbours who used to sunbath on the drive at the front of their house

JuicyStrawberry Fri 26-May-17 14:01:16

No of course it isn't!

NavyandWhite Fri 26-May-17 14:02:23

Of course it's fine! Even if you're overlooked you've got a bikini on!

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle Fri 26-May-17 14:05:48

I sunbathe completely nude in my garden!

It is slightly overlooked- I think one persons window might see me.....but it's their issue, not mine!

And I hate this idea of "decency" when it comes to things like this.
It's a naked body- we all have them, and the bigger deal we make of them, the more of a deal it becomes IYSWIM??

In places like Sweden it would be weird to not be naked when sunbathing/communal showering/ in the sauna.

We have some frankly outdated and weird hang ups about nakedness in this country.
It's about time we ditched the Victorian hangover and embraced everyones naked bodies, in all their amazing shapes and sizes! grin

Half the mums at our first primary would rock up at home-time wearing teensy ripped shorts half way up their arse-cheeks and two-triangles-of-fabric bikini tops in weather cooler than this! grin

Your garden, wear what you want- even on your front drive, as far as I care!

Kokusai Fri 26-May-17 14:06:35

Or a bit inappropriate for an overlooked back garden

No.

It is no more inappropriate than wearing a bikini at the beech or the pool

Draylon Fri 26-May-17 14:06:47

Lana You're not naked if you're sporting a nipple tassle, are you, now? grin

silkpyjamasallday Fri 26-May-17 14:07:07

Totally acceptable in your own garden, regardless of it being overlooked. Once I force DP to the garden centre to get some outdoor furniture (and get him to finally take the Christmas tree to the dump) I will be out sunbathing, probably topless as both houses either side are empty so no peeping toms.

I was a bit hmm at the number of students sunbathing in the park in their underwear when I took DD out in the pram yesterday though. Not bikinis either, actual bras and knickers, with their clothing strewn around. I'm around the same age as most of them and now feel like a pearl clutching little old lady because of my disapproval.

CherryBlossomPink Fri 26-May-17 14:07:25

Totally fine - I have an overlooked back garden and am just setting up my hot tub for the summer - your garden is for you to enjoy 😊

seafoodeatit Fri 26-May-17 14:07:51

Indecent is risking malignant melanoma over a tan but that's a whole other story. It's your private garden, do whatever you like, it's their job not to peep into your garden if they don't like it.

LanaKanesLeftNippleTassle Fri 26-May-17 14:08:41

In fact I am writing this from the garden, DS is nude in the paddling pool (in the shade, factor 50 on btw!) and I am slathered in sunscreen and sitting topless at my patio table. with a glass of cider

Having a frickin great time, and no neighbour or insect is going to stop me!
