AIBU?

To be irritated by colleague constantly commenting on my lunch

I dont eat particularly healthy but have say sandwich and crisps for lunch. One particularly healthy colleague is always making comments and slights. Its so irritating im starting to consider eating in the car rather than the office to avoid the continual grilling and comments.
AIBU (I know I am a bit)

YANBU. Don't go and eat in your car, though - tell her to fuck off.

What kind of things are they saying and is it just you or other people who get comments?

Report
ilovesooty · 03/03/2015 21:07

"Thank you for your feedback but I chose my lunch for me to eat, not for you to approve"

What do they actually say? YANBU, btw, but don't eat in the car. Just need to think of some suitable answers.

Things like 'ooh brown bread today? Im shocked' and other such comments

Do you say anything to your colleague?

YANBU, it's none of their business what you eat.

YANBU. Take a deep breath. Adopt a loud, firm tone and say:

"It's very rude to comment on other people's choice of food. You're becoming annoying".

They're making the comments because they've not been challenged. It's almost bullying and you're being too polite to tell them so. Don't let them get away with it. They're not being pleasant or courteous to you; you owe them none in return.

Just tell her she's making you uncomfortable with her comments.

I feel your pain - I've got one of those in my office . Just ignore the smug git .

Would something like 'you seem weirdly obsessed with my food. Why is that?' work?

Report
Discopanda · 03/03/2015 21:11

Or "I'm glad that my lunch is so interesting to you, you obviously have a very boring life"

Report
SwedishEdith · 03/03/2015 21:12

Maybe a direct, "Why do you always comment on what people are eating?"

Report
Janethegirl · 03/03/2015 21:13

Tell her to fuck off.

I share an office and my colleague and I absolutely detest whatever each of us is having for lunch, but we joke about it.

As long as I don't have to eat her lunch and she doesn't have to eat mine it's great.

'When you're paying for it you can comment. Otherwise, mind if I eat my lunch in peace?'

YANBU. She sounds like a twat.

I'd think of some sarky / cutting responses. We can help :) Tell us more of the sort of thing she says.

To "Ooh brown bread today"

  • I want to be you
  • I made my lunch in the dark and thought it was white crap
  • it was an error on my food shopping order but I can't waste food

Or just start bitching at her lunch?

Sorry my suggestions probs aren't great but fight back at this loser. If it's any consolation it'll be because she's insecure and miserable in herself.

YANBU at all, I hate it when people do that!! Had a few people like that at my work, one would glance over and always comment if it wasn't healthy "ooh cake again" yes fucking cake again. Problem? And another would always hang about saying "mmm that looks nice, what you got there" waiting to be offered some. She actually asked someone if she could have a bite of his beef pasty (not a euphemism)!!!!! He gave her a firm NO. Hilarious.

I did ask once why it needed to be a continual subject for discussion but I feel it went over her head.

I think your work collegue started a thread tonight but it's ok op she doesn't know any fatties so you are obviously ok. Grin

Now just look at her and tell her to 'fuck off and mind her own business to the far end of fuck and when she gets there fuck off a bit more.'

ilovesooty's is a good comeback, that should stop her in her tracks.

Offer them a Mars Bar if they keep their gob shut?

I'd be tempted to take my lunch over to her and invite her to make some comments - every single day for a week or so. That should make your point quite nicely I think.
