AIBU?

to think MNers can be better than this

OPs may be ignorant, they maybe obtuse, they may be in the wrong and they may be trolls...

but how can dozens upon dozens of swearing riddled instructions to carry out intimate acts be considered a reasonable response?

For some people MN is the first forum they frequent. It is perfectly possible to post something that is innocently ignorant yet massively outrageous to MNers. Then suddenly you are being called all the names under the sun and told to fuck yourself preferably until dead? really?

Believe me it can be a massive shock that people say things on the internet they would never say in real life. It is possible to feel very very frightened and threatened by such an onslaught.

AIBU to think if the last 5 posters have covered the 'fuck off to the far side of fuck' angle then maybe you don't need to stick the boot in too?

The best case scenario is that the person on the other end is indeed a troll....in which case why are you giving them what they want?

several threads recently....I find the pack mentality rather disturbing sometimes. Especially when it starts getting self-congratulatory....

'oh what a lovely lot you are for kicking the shit out of the OP on my behalf....'

yeah - lovely!

I was thinking of starting a thread about this. I totally agree with you.

It may just be that I lack a troll spotting gene. I just look at some OP's and I think, but it IS possible to make that mistake genuinely...and I feel a bit sick at the savagery.

If you're talking about the nappy thread (and you are, as you made the same point there) it's been deleted.
I thought it was a troll and possibly some perv who wanted details about nappy wearing teenagers.
I think MN made the right call there.

AnyFucker · 05/02/2014 18:05

I think you may lack a troll spotting gene too

I prefer humorous Takedowns though

I haven't seen any teenage nappy threads but if you saw the dildo//digits one today, that was pure class Smile

The OP of that thread was an ignorant fucking troll.

Or a bit thick. MN is better than that.

IceBeing · 05/02/2014 18:07

I don't think it matters if it was a troll or not. It is still ragingly inappropriate to post pages and pages of abuse.

Why do I keep missing the exciting threads? Grin

It is perfectly possible to have been on Mumsnet for over 12 years and never used a swear word Smile. We don't all follow the pack.

trampled what a nice person you appear to be. I always aspired to be the kind of person that would slag someone off where they had no right to reply.

also they were either ignorant OR a troll. Not both.

Its not appropriate to post pig ignorant threads either.

Maybe take it up with MNHQ so they delete the twat threads faster.

Oh I saw that one. Didn't click on it though. It's okay Ice I lack the trollspotting gene too. I got right into the explosive poo kid dropped off at mine etc. When I logged back in. MN message just said Bridge Dweller. I don't know whether to be disappointed or embarrassed when I fall for them! Grin.

So HQ took a troll thread down ?

I don't see the issue

Ragwort Not exciting at all....OP made an observation that indicated either extreme ignorance of a range of disabilities or that they were a well informed troll who knew exactly which button to press.

Then about 50 people decided to abuse them.

If was exciting in the same way the running of the bulls is. You hope that noone gets too hurt....or at least that nobody who isn't a total knob gets hurt...

I think telling someone to fuck off without being able to explain why their post is offensive/ignorant is the thing that gets me.

Report
IceBeing · 05/02/2014 18:13

anyfucker so you think it is okay for a pack of around 50 people to abuse an OP?

50 odd people telling someone they are all things under the sun and to fuck off? This doesn't seem like bullying??

Anyfucker I can't speak for Ice but I'm assuming she means that instead of going into a thread straight away with insults and swear words that we should tell trolls to fuck off more politely?

Report
TrampledUnderfoot · 05/02/2014 18:14

I think its fine to abuse a troll yes.

Op, I would agree that there is a pack mentality on here some times, but the pendulum usually swings back and you'll often get people defending the OP too.

Report
TrampledUnderfoot · 05/02/2014 18:15

You can't bully a troll, you daft sod.

They love the abuse.

Report
IceBeing · 05/02/2014 18:15

I think HQ should be sending a message to every person that made a personal attack on that thread (most of them) and probably making a general announcement that pack like bullying and troll hunting isn't on.
