AIBU?

to feel resentment over cliquey parents at school

Just left a kiddie's party, 4-5, where my little one was the only one to turn up. Angry, and he had a broken wrist so couldn't exactly join in on the bouncy castle. Birthday boy is 5 today and his little face broke my heart. He bounced madly for the best part of half the party whilst me and his Mum made small talk.

I know, I just fucking know that the clique of parents in this class made a decision to not go, because the child is a bit messy, doesn't speak (elective mute), his mother is a bit of a loner, he has no Dad, they're a bit skint. FFS, it was a party and no other kid turned up. I know some parents had to work etc, but I know this class and their parents and many fuckers decided to not go because he's not in the clique. Twating parents. If they could only have seen his face. I never imagined a 5 year old could be humiliated, but I saw it written all over his little face.

And his mother is brassick, totally skint, yet she'd paid out good money to pay for this. Table was laden with food and no fucker turned up.

Sorry - no doubt will get a flaming by some, but I don't feel the need to don a flame proof coat or hat because I'm boiling with anger already Sad

Those other parents - if you are correct - are arseholes

Personally, I would be extremely frosty with them forever more. Bitches.

Ayoop · 06/10/2011 17:42

p.s. this is par for the course with so many children with SN. bet he doesn't get invited to their parties, either, poor mite.

As I said - arseholes.

what total bastards. I would be so sad and so angry with them.

Can you say something? Is there a clique leader that you could maybe pull to one side and guilt trip explain how disappointed the little boy was?

How awful, how did his mum react?
Were the whole class invited? Seems strange that none turned up, could invitations have gone AWOL before they reached book bags?
I don't want to believe that this could be intentional Sad

They're disgraceful, OP, you're not being unreasonable at all. How pathetic and sad excuses for mothers they are. Not even an RSVP... Angry

Report
LaWeasel · 06/10/2011 17:46

That's really awful - poor boy.

I know it's cold comfort but at least you were there and made an effort, I'm sure the mum appreciated that at least.

There was a little girl whose family were treated like this at my primary school. She was lovely and my dad always made a major effort (subtly! I didn't notice at the time) to encourage us to be friends and take us on days out today. He was livid with the other parents.

I would feel so tempted to say to the parents involved "I hope you feel better about ruining a little boy's birthday".

People like that make me so cross.

That's so sad.:(

Well done for going- you must be relieved that you didn't have other plans today.

That is utter hell. I can't believe people would do that to a 5 year old or any child. I thought kids were supposed to be taught to treat everyone equally?? I just want to hug the little boy - and I am not normally like that!

That is just so Sad, what horrid bullies these mums are. Poor poor little boy. If the mums are like this, what hope is there for their offspring. I am glad that our school is not like this.

What nasty nasty bastards!

Moth, who cares that they are a clique - please say something. If I lived anywhere near you, I would be with you at the school gates tomorrow to deliver some home truths.

I was Sad when I first read your post. Now I am Angry beyond belief.

Makes me despair for humanity, it really does.

Bastards.

That happened to me once.

I organised a party for my eldest. one child showed up.

I know it is because my child has autism. Why the hell they didn't just say they weren't coming I don't know.

I can imagine how that mother is feeling. I was heartbroken at their callous treatment of my son.

If anyone reading this had a child at Hammond JMI in Herts about 7 years ago and didn't show up at the party of little boy with autism they were invited to -

YOU FUCKING BASTARD

I feel so awful for that poor woman and for her child. I am really glad that you went. Do you think you guys can become friends?

Report
pigletmania · 06/10/2011 17:50

Its as bad as the boy being the only one not being invited to a whole class party.

Report
soandsosmummy · 06/10/2011 17:50

I'm not surprised you're angry on his behalf. How awful for everyone concerned. I'd have been in floods of tears if that had been DD.

Are you sure that his party did not clash with another that most but not all of the class were invited to?

Are you in a position yourself to maybe take your son and the little boy out on a trip one weekend - maybe as a celebration when your sons wrist comes out of plaster? Poor little boy deserves a break.

Report
pigletmania · 06/10/2011 17:50

yes i would have nothing to do with those parents

Report
Roseflower · 06/10/2011 17:51

I too am hoping there is a good excuse for this... she wrote the wrong dates down on the invites?

If not how immature do you have to be to ruin a child's birthday because the parents are skint.

Even if you don't think much of the parent you make this about the child. Im angry and sad if this is true

Report
JamieComeHome · 06/10/2011 17:51

Oh God, that's terrible. Where on earth do you live? I've never heard of anything like that happening before.

Report
posey · 06/10/2011 17:51

I am stunned. What utterly horrid people. I don't think I could bare to even look at them if they were my child's classmates' parents.
Total bastards.

I just don't want to believe the OP.

Because otherwise I'd be so Angry and so Sad

Oh, how sad :(

I would really struggle not to say something to the other parents.

Report
northernrock · 06/10/2011 17:52

Oh God, I am welling up. The poor little boy!
I am also freaking out now, cos my little boy has just started school, we are in a new town,ds is fairly shy I am single and skint and I find the playground vibe really unfriendly actually.
OMG if I had a party for him and no-one turned up he would be heartbroken!

I think you should mention it to the other parents. I fucking well would.
Good for you for not following the herd.
