Hi all my ds age 7 has for a few months been vomiting had bad tummy pains with occasional diahrea. He isn’t celiac as the blood test has just confirmed this and also is t diabetic but that’s all I know so far. Testing for inflammatory bowel disease this week (hopefully should know by the end of the week as hospital lost his blood last week 🙄) Dr said in the meantime go gluten and dairy free........ I didn’t realise how especially dairy is everywhere. Even the calpol !!?! He is getting so thin. I have found crisps and pancakes that fit this requirement but I keep messing up. Bought oatly milk thinking it was fine but then read it contains gluten.

Can anyone suggest a milk alternative? I bought goats milk but then read I shouldn’t give him that either??

Also any kids friendly foods?

In the past his favourite was pancakes, fishfingers, chicken nuggets, toast (he hates the genius load and the pure spread I have bought)

I guess we could just stick to plain chicken fish and potatoes?

Any help appreciate xx

Also pain is so bad at night any suggestions for that please? I am giving kids nurofen, hot water bottles and tummy rubs but it’s still hurting him so much all of the time ☹️ He is tears every day. This is so unusual for him he is normal so brave with pain. He once broke his leg and didn’t cry so I’m getting really worried now x

We are gluten, dairy and egg free and it's not as difficult now main supermarket s all selling good ranges. You just need to read lots of labels. Sainsburys free from chicken nuggets and fishmongers are our preference. Tesco's do nice bread. Dairy free vitalite is our favorite spread. The milks tend to be try lots and find your favourite. I only use hazelnut in my coffee. I like rude health oat milk for everything else but the rest of house like Aldis unsweetened soya milk.

Thank you so much Ilovetocook. I will head to Sainsbury’s to get those nuggets and fishfingers thanks and try the vitalight. It’s great to get recommendations as it’s so costly and I either buy the wrong things or he doesn’t like them. As he didn’t like genius bread is there another in Tesco you would recommend? He used to love whole meal toast (without any bits) x

Tesco have quite a large free from range Smile
Don't have any specifics for you unfortunately though as I'm just starting on dairy and gluten free for my daughter as well, watching for ideas!

My local Tesco does a gluten free oat milk (Oat Dream) which we can all have. I can't have gluten and the baby can't have dairy or soya.

I tend to make most of my meals now as it's easier (just replace the milks/flours etc) and we get along fine. It's a tough adjustment period at the beginning though.

I did my supermarket shop online for about a month and took time reading all of the labels, so now I just order similar things.

Sainsbury's and Tesco's own chips are generally gluten and dairy free. Tesco finest and Heck 97% pork sausages are generally gluten and dairy free too. I got the BBC gluten free cookbook and use that a lot with replacements for the dairy. The free from section in Tesco is fab. Sainsbury's free from cherry bakewells are lovey (I've served them up to friends before and they said they were some of the nicest that they'd had).

You’re getting lots of good advice, basically you can bake anything with gf flour and soya milk

Everyone going gluten free is advised to avoid any oats for the first 6 months as 5% of us are sensitive to the oat protein too

Dr Schar is a good brand for you, they do a dairy free gf pizza at Sainsbury’s, don’t confuse with the other supermarkets who all carry the standard one

They also do frozen bags of 6 cobs that are gf df and perfect for lunch boxes

Most of the supermarkets do products that are gf and df in the free from section you’ll soon find some favourites

Thanks so much for all of this information. Will try out the suggestions I have just read thanks. I bought the nuggets yesterday from Sainsbury’s and they were delicious a big hit. It’s so frustrating not knowing for sure what is causing this. Hopefully either the diet or the test results will reveal some answers soon x

hi cocofluff

not sure if you're looking for recipes to cook separately for him or whether you're looking for the whole family, but i came across this recipe for a gluten free lasagne if it's any good??

www.foodcirclesupermarket.co.uk/vegetarian-free-lasagne-recipe/

the blog section is quite new but this website is pretty good for health food and stuff for allergies/intolerances too if you go to the shop - might be some snacks/chocolate/drinks and other stuff on there that might be suitable more generally?? (you can easily use the menu to find gluten/dairy free)

hope this helps
