I have separated from my husband over 20 years + and I've always had the dress hung up in its bag in the wardrobe. But I was having a clear out today and I was wondering what to do with it.

I don't fit in it now Blush
Regardless of whether you are still married or not, what did you do with yours?

In the old chest in the hallway I think - where it's been for many many years.

It may actually still fit me but it'll be very dated now

Mine is hanging in the loft in its bag. I'm divorced as well but I can't bear to get rid of it because I bought it with my late mum. It's worth bugger all anyway, the elastic in the bodice is all perished so no one would want it. I can get in it so I've ponced about in it once or twice when OH is out Grin

HungryHippo11 · 14/09/2021 18:09

Gave it back to the person who I borrowed it from

If I owned it, I would have sold it or given to charity. Not much point in keeping hold of a massive item I'm not going to use any more.

MajorCarolDanvers · 14/09/2021 18:09

Mine has been hanging in the wardrobe for 17 years

Bakewellisntjustacake · 14/09/2021 18:10

Sold it and bought a dog.

ParkheadParadise · 14/09/2021 18:11

I gave it to my local chapel. It was made into a First communion dress for children that couldn't afford to buy one.
I received a picture of the beautiful little girl on her special day. The dress was re-used again the next year.

SnarkyBag · 14/09/2021 18:11

Charity bag

LubaLuca · 14/09/2021 18:11

It went to charity when we moved house. It was neither use nor ornament, so it didn't earn its place in the removals lorry.

broccolibush · 14/09/2021 18:15

I sent mine to someone on here. She was asking for a recommendation for something for a civil wedding and her measurements were what mine were when I got married. It was only a high street dress but I had a veiled hat/fascination made to go with it. She sent a picture of her wearing it. I kind of hope she passed it on too (and if you’re still on here please know your picture sometimes pops up on my google memories and it gives me great joy).

TheDeckchairGardener · 14/09/2021 18:15

I tried to sell mine in a shop that specialised in pre-loved wedding dresses but after a few months they gave it back to me. So I stashed it in the loft for 7 years before deciding to donate it to the British Red Cross charity.

Sodoi · 14/09/2021 18:21

Gave it to a theatre group to use for pantomimes.

mamaduckbone · 14/09/2021 18:22

Mine is in a suitcase. We moved house recently and it's now in the loft. It was in the cellar at our old house. I haven't as much as looked at it for a very long time (19 years, still married)

Westpoint · 14/09/2021 18:26

I sold mine a few months after our wedding (still married) - it was expensive and quite rare so the recipient was very pleased!

stopringingme · 14/09/2021 18:28

Mine is in the loft - 25th wedding anniversary in a couple of weeks.

ponygirlcurtis · 14/09/2021 18:30

Stuck it in a bag going to charity. The marriage lasted less than 11 months and ended because of DV. Just wanted it gone. It felt very freeing to just discard it like that.

Notaroadrunner · 14/09/2021 18:31

I donated mine to a similar charity.

Theunamedcat · 14/09/2021 18:32

Charity shop they had about a thousand pounds worth of stuff off me during lockdown most of it things I bought with ex husband or my ex partner I decluttered the lot still more to go but im glad I dumped it

firstimemamma · 14/09/2021 18:32

Tried to sell it on Still White. It's a beautiful Monsoon dress but it sadly couldn't compete with the pricier dresses on there so it didn't sell. Gave it to the charity shop instead along with veil and shoes.

Joystir59 · 14/09/2021 18:32

Gave it to a charity shop

Theblackdogagain · 14/09/2021 18:33

Still in my wardrobe, I'm normally ruthless with clothes but mine only cost a couple of hundreds so it was kept. I've used the hoop a few times in panto and lent out bits and bobs. I think my shoes are in the attic, but that all needs a clear out at some point.

Mumteedum · 14/09/2021 18:35

I am divorced and a single parent. My friend is the same. In lockdown, we got drunk and video called each other in our respective frocks 😆

Made a nice change from loungewear!

TheBraveLittleTailor · 14/09/2021 18:42

I have worn it three times in ten years including on our tenth anniversary, but it is not recognisably a wedding dress.
I’m impressed with the ruthlessness of people who gave it to a charity shop immediately. Someone thought I was ruthless just to throw out the top of the wedding cake.

Elieza · 14/09/2021 18:49

Mine went to a charity shop.

Although there was a specific party event here in a large venue a few years ago that all attendees were invited to wear a wedding dress to attend! I’d have loved that. What fun. Loads of brides enjoying wearing their dresses again. Or indeed buying a new one as they couldn’t fit in their old one…

And I think that Friends show that was on tour had a bridal dressing up area you could try dresses on for fun like Phoebe and Rachael did.
