Getting fit indoors - accountability thread

We have been in lockdown for 6 weeks I think and outdoor activity is very limited. I am getting fatter and creakier! Wondered if anybody else would like an accountability thread to post what exercise you are doing every day? I started off well but lethargy has set in and I am feeling less and less like moving but also not sleeping well so I need someone to get me to buck my ideas up!

I’m in the shield group and have 10 weeks ahead of me

Yesterday’s exercise consisted of ‘meeting’ some running buddies on Skype and drinking Wine together Grin

I have found some indoor workout sessions, mainly from providers I knew before in RL, now on zoom. That’s good as I have to join in at a specific time,

Also I use Garmin ‘indoor running’ function to turn running on the spot (or up and down the sitting room) into a notional mileage. Even with the odd bout of star jumps to break up the tedium, that’s phenomenally dull!

I just got myself together and my ass back into gear yesterday - 22 minutes on the elliptical

Going to do 30 mins today

I also have some weight and a mat for bodyweight fitness type stuff so plan to do that maybe twice a week as well

Yes! I’m doing yoga, walking and gardening. In theory.

I did a 50 minutes workout yesterday as I was used to the gym 5 days a week minimum.
I still had some toning to do but I was getting there but now I seem to have lost all progress, I’ve put on 2lb and I feel back to square 1.

My diet is awful, I’m getting about 9,000 steps a day on my walk but it’s not done quickly as my wee dog is getting old.

I’m going to do some skipping and more resistance band workouts today I think. Since I’m in the house all the day I’m waking up and putting (clean) gym clothes on so it doesn’t feel like a chore to change into a sports bra etc later. It seems to work for me

I did 15 minutes on the exercise bike and a few arm exercises. It's sooo boring though!

That's a good tip. I keep on thinking if I get dressed there is no point in doing anything as I'll need to get changed!

I’ve been doing popsugar fitness videos on YouTube, as well as Blogilates on the days where I’m not running. Just started following a 5k to 10K training app to give me some focus since running group is cancelled.

If I stopped eating so much, I’d definitely be a size 8 Grin

2-3 mile dog walk in the morning fairly briskly
Walk up and down the stairs 10 times at lunchtime (I’m WFH so am sitting all morning and all afternoon)
Early evening a beginners work out on YouTube by EmiWong, only 15 mins

I put my workout clothes on first thing and decide on a set of exercises to do. Then I write them on the kitchen whiteboard for accountability.

Then I try to do as many sets as possible throughout the day. If each set only takes 5-8 minutes in more likely to keep doing them, so in between looking after the kids I can just do one set at a time, but throughout the day it adds up.

It stops it being so daunting or boring.

Today my set is :25 push ups, 25 sit ups, 12 Burpees and 15 weighed squats. I've managed to do it four times so far. Will try to do another two sets today.

Exercise is the only thing helping my anxiety. At least it gives me some time ro switch off and not think about it.

I cannot get my steps up no matter how i try so I'm trying to do other things. Lots of gardening as I have a very large garden. That helps my anxiety too.

We do Joe wicks as a family every morning and then I tend to do more in the evening when the kids are in bed. Yesterday was zumba/bit of dance and today is my gym machine which is a bit like a total gym but not. YouTube has been an absolute godsend, I get all my workouts from there.

I never ever had the motivation to exercise at home before, so I am really trying to make the most of it.

Sadly I've gone from doing loads of exercise to doing nothing, I've turned into a slob. I did try doing an online class but it felt weird so just sat and watched instead.
I really need the class environment to motivate me.

@fitzbilly I can only do 3 push ups now so don’t think I’d manage a set of 25 like you! I seem to have lost all my upper body strength

@ohdearmymistake I have no motivation at all! The only way I can get through them is if I promise myself if I don't like it I just have to get to the end then I don't have to do it again and i always have to have the timer at the bottom showing so that I know exactly how long I have left to suffer Grin. I never do workouts longer than about 40 minutes either.

Can I join you all please?

I was not especially fit before, but over the last year or so I’d started gentle swimming and sometimes used the gym and yoga classes. All very very gentle due to having ME and other conditions but it has helped me so much and I’m missing it like crazy as it really helped my mental health too. We have all had a virus (I do think it was CV tbh) and I’m even weaker since.

We are currently able to do a family walk once a day as per the rules and I’m trying to break off and do a faster lap by myself too, it’s not much but it’s a start.

We have an exercise bike and very small hand weights, access to YouTube for yoga etc but I’m finding motivation very hard when I’m tired from the walk and worried about doing too much and being in pain again. So this thread would be really helpful!

I really want to motivate my DCs too as the older two usually do loads of clubs - dance, martial arts etc. And now they’re vegetating a bit. Getting Just Dance on the switch soon.

I'm doing toning exercises most days (days that I'm not doing C25k which I've just started) based on stuff I do at my pilates class, including some resistance band and small dumbells. I have a little routine going which I add to or change about depending how I feel. I can feel it making a difference. I am determined to come out of kickdown fitter than I started. My excuse has always been no time to exercise, well, I can't say that now!

I did nothing today and I’m gutted! Foot hurt too much to walk in the park with the others.

I’m going to drag the exercise bike out to in front of the telly now. It’s sort of tucked in a corner at the moment. And then I’ll try it for a bit. I don’t need to put on a bra for that so I call it an easy win :o

I did a 5k indoors yesterday, which exercised my will power as much as my body - it’s so dull it really is a mental effort to keep going!

Have restarted c25k on the treadmill in the garage and am trying to do some hiit or a YouTube weights routine every other day.

Trying my hardest to get all my Fitbit daily goals in but that's really difficult.

I was meant to go for a run outside today hence why I'm up but my eyes are streaming, I itch and I have a headache and a sore throat. I hate pollen. So will treadmill later.

Monday I did 22 mins elliptical, Tuesday 31 mins, Yesterday 15 mins

Not sure what I'll feel like today but I've promised myself a minimum of ten minutes a day. Usually by the time I've got my trainers on I feel like going for it with over ten mins... hope that continues!

I have to exercise every day as I feel so fat and chunky having sat in the house WFH every day. I'm used to being in gym 5 times a week so this has hit me hard and I'm only 2 weeks into 12 weeks isolation... 😩

I'm currently 11 days into the 30 day shred which although is only half an hour a day, is a great end to the working day and I've been able to do it outside on the patio too! DH is also doing a 30 min circuit session with the teens in the garden which is pretty hardcore - squats, burpees, pull ups, press ups, planks... we're all knackered by 6pm!

Like others, I put my gym clothes on when I get up so as soon as I log off the laptop at 5pm, I can crack on and be exercising 10 mins later.

30 day shred? I’m on day 10, only takes 20-30 mins from the comfort of your living room

This^

I keep on thinking if I get dressed there is no point in doing anything as I'll need to get changed!

That's why I put gym/exercise/workout clothes on in the morning so, that cuts out one of my excuses not to work out. Basically I'll then be wearing work out gear all day. It's only the clock that's waiting......
