Toot toot palace for a 1 year old?

My daughter is one on Christmas Eve, consequently it means that I'm trying to get her a few things that will last her throughout the year as she won't have another big gift occasion for twelve months and they change a lot between one and two...

I think she'd be too young for the palace at the moment but would it be any good in six months or so? Or should I just hang fire until next birthday / Christmas when she will be 2? I'm in two minds over the toot toot stuff, some people seem to find their kids aren't that impressed by it.

Dd is currently 10 months (corrected only 8 as was prem) and isn't doing any role play or anything with toys yet so would it be too old for her, especially if she's delayed?

Hmmm it's tricky to say really - I got my ds a garage for his first birthday but I knew he wouldn't play with it properly for another 12-18 months. He can only use it to push cars down the ramp but that palace doesn't look like they're would be much for a 1yo to do with it? What about a walker instead?

On the otherhand, I've always bought "future" presents when my DCs are little...

Could you just get a few things for xmas as she will get gifts from other people and put the money aside to buy her toys as she needs them during the year?

Other things my pair have loved from 1-2 and 3 have had birthdays close to xmas so we understand/have done the plan ahead thing-

• stacking blocks
  
• books
  
• bath toys
  
• some kind of push along walker
  
• the musical play table that they stand at and press buttons etc
  
• we had a wooden block cart that had a lot of use
  
• something that you put plastic balls in and they move around
  
• shape sorter
  
• by 18 months 2 of my kids were very into Little People/happyland.
  
• simple wooden sorter puzzles where there is a peg type thing in the back of each piece.
  
• Smart-trike
  
• for the summer the tiny 3 step plastic slide you can use inside or outside
  
• balls esp the ones with textured surfaces

I'd leave it a year. We got ds the toot toot garage last year when he'd just turned two (literally 3 days before Christmas)and he has played with it loads but dd who is 15 months isn't really that bothered about it. At the moment she loves stacking cups, books (especially 'That's not my...' ones), teddies, shape sorter. Dd will be 17 months at Christmas and we're getting her a Happy Land cottage, a baby buggy, big jigsaw, an Emily Buttons dolly, Duplo, books....Some other bits!

Ds is turning 3 this year and there are a few things he got for his first birthday he still plays with- mainly duplo, sensory block things, building blocks , teddies and ikea play food. We also set some cash aside to buy some Summer toys, we got the sand pit and the easel for the summer he turned 18 months and they have been well used!
