Yoga clothes?

I am in need of some new yoga clothes. At the moment I wear plain t shirts and Primark leggings, and layer my tops if I get too hot in class. I have booked a yoga retreat in May and would like to upgrade my yoga gear.
Clothes that would work in class, but also be a little stylish for meals etc.
Also stuff I can wear day to day- I don't want anything tight ( I am in my 60s) and I love natural colours, so cream, oatmeal. mocca, russet, moss green.
Any suggestions appreciated.

I am constantly looking for yoga tops! I really want someone to invent a tie back or side loose top. Anyway, TK Maxx is where I have got some fab yoga stuff.

JustAnotherDayWorkingAtHome · 26/04/2025 20:38

Sweaty Betty have a tie back top

indecisivewoman81 · 26/04/2025 21:10

Have a look at Forgotton tribes they do relax style trousers and loose fitting tops that might work

mynameiscalypso · 26/04/2025 21:12

I like stuff from BAM

Thank you, I tried this on but it just didn’t work. Not enough fabric so the knot was really awkward.

15minutesaday · 26/04/2025 22:42

What about harem or beach trousers?

I have it and the knot works for me but to be honest it’s annoying In shavasana so I don’t really use it for yoga!

GnomeMoreTears · 28/04/2025 16:44

Posting here just to say me too! I’m more
or less muddling through for bottom
halves, but WHY is it so hard to find tops?! I bought a cuffed tee from BAM (which is probably a bit big) but the neckline goes over my chin in down dog and even though the cuff is supposed to keep it in place, I still flash my tummy. Plus, it’s thick and hot.

What I’d really like is a vest in a breathable fabric that isn’t cropped, doesn’t gape or flap but is sufficiently skimming that I don’t feel like I’m wrapping my belly rolls in clingfilm when doing anything other than standing or lying flat.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 28/04/2025 16:48

I’ve just bought some nice tops in matalan in the sale. Drapey material yet fitted enough to not gap.
not been in for a few years but Sainsbury’s used to do nice leisure wear t shirts. I still use those too but in layers with the matalan stuff.

speakout · 28/04/2025 19:31

Thanks for the suggestions.
Tops are difficult! I don't like tight gym wear, but yes I end up with my head in a cave in down dog when the neckline droops, I like a rounded bottom hem, but don't want it riding up when I do inversions. I end up tucking my top into my leggings for inversions- but looks bumpy and lumpy.

You could look at Imbodhi jumpsuits, so comfy, so stylish I get tonnes of compliments wearing mine.

Defiantly41 · 09/06/2025 22:23

I bought this recently and it’s great! Cool, comfortable, flattering on the upper arms, the wide “waistband” which actually goes around the hips means it stays in place for down dog etc

I use black primark vest tops.

cotton, long line, curved neck but not too low. They are long in the body & don’t gape or ride up and are great for yoga. £3.50.

Thanks everyone- I ended up buying these trousers-

And a huge haul of stuff from the Linen shop section in Matalan. some lovely natural colours, and tops that has scalloped bottoms, highish necklines and tight enough not to ride up during inversions.
Back from my yoga retreat, the trousers were so comfortable, light and cool.

@RobinEllacotStrike you've made me wish I lived near a Primark, they sound ideal!

@speakout I love everything I’ve bought from Buddha Stone Shop. Thanks for the heads up re Matalan. Glad you enjoyed your retreat.

RobinEllacotStrike · 23/06/2025 10:19

@Poisonwood they are pretty much all I go into Primark for but they do tick all the boxes. I get ridiculously sweaty at HotPod so they need to be tough. I picked up a couple of new yoga vest tops over the weekend.

Taking a look at Buddha Stone Shop now ...

RobinEllacotStrike · 24/06/2025 11:12

I've been wearing Decathlon cotton leggings & basic cotton leggings for yoga.
One of the yoga teachers commented after a class that they looked heavy - well they were heavy as they were drenched in sweat but I'd never considered they might be affecting my movements.

This morning I wore my new Sweaty Betty leggings (not the specific yoga ones but workout ones I picked up on sale). I noticed a remarkable difference - 3 legged dog to elbow - I could tap my knee on my elbow for the first time ever.

I always lean towards natural fibers for clothing but these new leggings are completely unnatural & they are amazing.

Poisonwood · 29/06/2025 12:27

@RobinEllacotStrike that’s definitely something for us to take in to consideration, the weight! All my in person classes are in draughty church halls where thickness helps keep the chill at bay but at home I see a big difference when I’m in lighter leggings. The ones I got from Buddha stone shop (paisley and also crane) are lightweight and so soft.

Brownieshonour · 14/07/2025 20:28

Have a look at boho tusk

RobinEllacotStrike · 15/07/2025 14:20

thanks for recommenting Buddha Stone - I love my new cotton/linen trousers & my friend saw them and liked them so now she is ordering some too.

I also purchased a gorgeous pair of earrings from there too.

speakout · 16/07/2025 07:23

The Buddha Stones stiff is excellent, I am glad you like it. The items are really good quality, comfortable, lots of lovely little touches, cuffs, hems and waistbands finished off with complementary colours, fabric is thick- most of the clothing is great for every day wear.
They have a sale on atm, I am planning to buy a few more items soon.

I love Buddha Stones, everything I get is good quality and clothes are soft and thoughtfully designed. I’ve probably had more compliments about Buddha Stones apparel than anything else I wear.
