Well March is over, new month new focus!

Today I’ve done 45min YWA Feugo, Sarah Beth 30 min Slow Burn (thanks for the nudge @yogachick ) and 60min CF flow. 40 min meditation.

I was once working my way through all the YWA 30 day series. Can't remember how far I got, I did at least the first 4 but not sure if I got to True. I got to one with an awful lot of 45 min practices and just couldn't keep it up.
I take it you need to be careful with the hypermobility @Poisonwood ? I can't imagine what that's like but I love that after 17 years of teaching you gave her something new.

Yogachick · 23/04/2025 07:13

Yoga Camp is the one with super long practices @Jumbojem . I never did that one for the same reason

happytobemrsg · 23/04/2025 11:01

Been on a few of these threads throughout the years!

Had a targeted health check with Bupa yesterday & had a really good, detailed chat with the Dr about my general health. He drilled into me that for the next two years my 100% focus needs to be turning into a person who exercises regularly (5/6 days a week at least). Diet is to come secondary. So I’m back to daily yoga practice (hoping that once this is a habit, I can add on a couple of home gym sessions). Plan is to do it first thing in the morning. Much easier while I’m on maternity leave as DH has the baby but the real test will be getting up 25 minutes earlier before work next month.

I only ended up doing YWA Day 1 of Prana when it came out so today I did Day 2. Really tough but feel wonderful afterwards. I’ve booked a Yin Yoga class for next Wednesday (my favourite type of yoga but not as sweat inducing).

happytobemrsg · 23/04/2025 11:04

The only YouTube videos I’ve done is YWA but I see a lot of people mentioning Sarah Beth on here. How do they compare?

Poisonwood · 23/04/2025 12:39

@Yogachick youve definitely sold me on doing that day of True again!

I did a really nice 40min yoga for core strength on you tube by Arianna Elizabeth, there were some variations I haven’t done before in her warm up and cool down sequences that felt nice and she seemed like someone I’d like to have a cup of tea with lol - she did a heartfelt chat after Shavasana too. I’ll try more definitely. 60min vinyasa class tonight.

True Day 23,Balance. Another delightful practice, my balancing was ok for a change. Felt great after, feeling the yoga love seeping back

Jumbojem · 23/04/2025 15:24

@happytobemrsg welcome! YWA chats a lot more than sarah beth, some of us found the chat a bit annoying after a while. SB had a 30 day series on YouTube back in Jan, its sure to still be on there. It was 10 minutes a day and was a great way to get back into it. Prana is only 7 days I think so you could give it a try after? I know what you mean about yin, when I did in person classes it was mostly hatha so lots of long holding of poses but not flow so less getting sweaty. Still tiring though, although my classes were 2 hrs, I don't know now how I managed. Although I did always end up falling asleep during the very extended shavasana at the end!
Loved the SB toe and ankle one from the calendar. Intend to do more yoga later but seem to be spending a lot of my day off just chilling at the mo, which is not what I intended...

Yogachick · 23/04/2025 15:42

Welcome @happytobemrsg . I’m loving Adriene atm though I often get irritated by the chat. This time I had been doing some Sarah Beth, who is more functional less chat. Her cueing is immaculate and she’s very present on the app. But then I missed the softness of Adriene) if that’s the right word)I feel Adriene sort of chucks a bone in yo the app every now and again but doesn’t engage much. There’s also several other teachers on there which can be a plus or minus, depending on personal taste.Just my opinion of course. SB lives are much more in depth, I’ve enjoyed and hugely benefitted from them.
Theres also Yoga with Kassandra,Charlie Follows and Brett Larkin on YouTube who seem popular. @Poisonwood is practicing with a wide variety of teachers both on YouTube and irl so can maybe point you in a helpful direction. I’m still trying for consistency 😳

happytobemrsg · 23/04/2025 17:40

Perhaps I’ll try SB after Prana but are the practices only on a paid-for app? 20 minutes is my sweet spot atm - I don’t want to have to wake too early & anything shorter feels insufficient

Jumbojem · 23/04/2025 20:52

SB has stuff on YouTube as well as an app, which seems the way of most of them TBH!
You could also give yoga with kassandra a go if you wanted variety, she has loads of practices organised by time, plenty of 20 min ones. I like her practices.
@Yogachick as you speak so highly of True I did day 1 after my run. It was good to be back with Adrienne but by heck, she had me hanging in Warrior one for an age while she chuntered on and my legs were already tired!

happytobemrsg · 23/04/2025 22:10

Thanks @Jumbojem! I’ll definitely check her out. I generally like Adriene’s chat but not when her chatting means I’m in a super hard pose for aaaggges!!

I’ve managed to book another Yin class for next Friday but this time with my favourite teacher so I’m very excited! My membership with David Lloyd will end once I return to work so I want to make the most of the in person classes. My teacher does do regular classes outside of this but it’ll just be too difficult to do once I’m working (long hours & 3 little DC at home).

happytobemrsg · 23/04/2025 22:15

There are so many videos on the SB channel- where do you think I should start?

Poisonwood · 23/04/2025 23:11

Hi @happytobemrsg 👋. I really like Sarah Beth, I’d go with some of her shorter practices and see how you go, I like how her cueing is so good I rarely have to look at the screen so can focus more on the yoga. Charlie Follows is very similar. I feel Brett Larking is a middle between Adriene’s soft chat and them. SB has some Powyin you might like? Combination of power then yin in same practice and you really appreciate the yin at the end!!

I just nipped on to say I got an unexpected compliment tonight - was chatting with the teacher before class and she said I have good breathwork…I swear I simpered my thank you 😂. Only fellow yogis will understand how much of a compliment that was lol

OP posts:
Jumbojem · 24/04/2025 09:32

@Poisonwood wow, great compliment! I need to do breath work, I'm a runner and trying to train by heart rate and I've realised I'm terrible at remembering to breath deeply which then sends my HR up higher than it should be for effort/terrain. There's just so many other things I want to focus on right now it's taking a back seat. Plus whenever I see a breath work practice I always just think I'm going to find out boring, without giving it a go...
SB calendar 5 min practice and Day 2 of True for me today. Glad to get it out the way early, now to stop procrastinating and get on with the jobs I took this week off for 🤣

happytobemrsg · 24/04/2025 09:45

Thanks @Poisonwood I like the idea of Power/Yin so might give that a try. I like having a course to follow (helps me just get up & do it) which is why I typically just follow YWA’s various series. In the past I’ve done Centre & Move, only occasionally selecting a specific one.

happytobemrsg · 24/04/2025 11:40

Didn’t really enjoy todays practice (YWA Prana Day 3) found it a bit boring & couldn’t get into it. Hoping tomorrow will be better.

Heard good things about True. What’s that series like?

Really feeling stiff in the neck/shoulder area. Noticed it when doing today’s practice. Might see if I can find a short video to help with that & try & squeeze it in while DS is napping.

Poisonwood · 24/04/2025 15:47

@happytobemrsg i just looked up my favourites on YWA and most of them came from the Breath series. I’m also sure I enjoyed the Breathing Room one too.

@Jumbojem I forgot to explain the hypermobility - there’s pain in every joint that has it, some people only have a couple but my children and I have every joint…and it produces huge fatigue as your body is constantly working so hard just to do simple tasks or movements as basic as standing and sitting. Hugely affected by the weather/air pressure and humidity…a shame as we live in the Highlands 😂. Yoga helps strengthen the muscles around each joint, and the stretching helps bring huge relief too as long as you are cautious.

Yogachick · 24/04/2025 16:52

Huge compliment @Poisonwood , breath is the basis for all of it and one of the hardest parts to master
Day 24 of True, just a short one today

Poisonwood · 24/04/2025 17:25

It really is @Yogachick . Helps with ego too I think, observing the constant change and work.

I’ve come down with a bad cold so just an Adrianna Elizabeth 30min Unwind Your Day practice.

OP posts:
Poisonwood · 25/04/2025 20:01

30min Brett Larkin total body practice, nice cueing. 2 hours of teacher training, focus on Tadasana.

OP posts:
Poisonwood · 26/04/2025 20:15

30min Brett Larkin back strengthening, 30 min Sarah Beth power. Can definitely feel my recent cold has weakened me a little.

happytobemrsg · 27/04/2025 10:19

@Poisonwood My SIL has hyper mobility & whenever I go to a yoga class with her my lack of flexibility is very evident!

Still practicing daily. Yesterday I felt a bit bloated & lacking motivation so I did a YWA 10 minutes video for digestion. Felt better afterwards.

This morning I had my first outdoor practice of 2025! I have a lovely big deck with an awning & it was wonderful. That was until DH said it was boiling in the kitchen & had to open the door. I have 3 young DC & they are so noisy!! Didn’t spoil it too much as I really enjoyed today’s practice (Prana Day 5). I’m pleased as I didn’t really get into Day 4.

As I have two 1 hour-long Yin classes booked for next week I’m thinking I should do an opening hip practice tomorrow. I was born with hip dysplasia & can get quite stiff (something I mainly notice during practice luckily).

Yogachick · 27/04/2025 17:51

Asthma bad yesterday so a do nothing day. Day 26& 27 of True ,then added on the kids yoga for bravery out of interest

Poisonwood · 27/04/2025 22:09

@happytobemrsg that sounds a nice practice outdoors, and good plan on working your hips.

@Yogachick Hope a gentle day has helped the asthma.

I did 30min of back strengthening, and some tuck headstands, feel quite run down so being careful not to do too much.

Poisonwood · 28/04/2025 22:51

30 min SB slow burn. Definitely felt it!
