Interesting read about the England Argentina match

That graphic is certainly very damning!

HaroldMeaker · 18/07/2026 11:37

I’m watching the press conference with Tuchel and he’s blaming the players for the loss. ‘Too passive’ and ‘run out of legs’. But that doesn’t explain why Tuchel didn’t substitute exhausted players with eg Saka or Rashford once he realised. I don’t remember seeing England give up like that.

KittyWilkinson · 18/07/2026 11:41

Blaming the players? He picked them and managed them and decided on tactics.
I'm very unimpressed with his comments.

DuncinToffee · 18/07/2026 11:50

Far too many excuses.

He selected the players for England and he selected the team for the match and decided the subs.

We all could see it.

KittyWilkinson · 18/07/2026 11:58

And there's a match tonight. Ok it's not a Final, but it's still a match, and that sort of blame culture does nothing to build the team.
Bellingham was right. The only response to Tuchel is to say. Whatever

placemats · 18/07/2026 12:11

If England win Bronze tonight, it'll be their best achievement in the world cup since 1966.

Interesting read about the England Argentina match

Wow !! 122 in that time ?
The times also has an excellent breakdown min by minuet.

The problem for me with imposing the national pysce thing on the Argentine match was this team is different!
They have scored most goals after 70 mins.

Messi is a very different player to attack.
He was marked so well to begin with by Spence ,Jude and others. But we fell back on him

Messi was just like a ball machine endlessly crossing the ball , like those ball machines on a tennis court.

Apparently he plays like a robot with no emotion. He doesn't move much because he's watching and thinking and being strategic which he can afford to do when he is standing and not in the fray. He's like a chess player and can see moves ahead of time.

He had about 30 mins of pleasure to do his best in the goal area.

I'm wondering if tuchel had a strategy for this because they did the same at a few games.

So with a team that seems to specifically like to be down to get that zone commitment to winning it's a different kettle of fish for us also with a unique star.

ComeOnEngland12 · 18/07/2026 12:14

@placemats i didn't realise Jude and Killian are best mates and both play for same team either so at least they will be comfortable with each other and know each others styles really well !
There won't be that "aura" that Messi had

Yes, Argentina had loads of fresh legs on with plenty of time to go.

Also what did happen to foden etc ?

Cmon Fiji, in the rugby

ComeOnEngland12 · 18/07/2026 12:17

Overall we have had the most tremendous ride with this team. They have done so incredibly well ! Think Brazil 5 times winners didn't even make this stage and Italy, Germany no where to be seen.

They deserve a hero's welcome they really do.

dapsnotplimsolls · 18/07/2026 13:02

I wish it was 8pm tonight - not sure I'll make it until the end.

Do you think the French players will unfurl a Jersey is French banner at the end of the game?

the80sweregreat · 18/07/2026 13:48

Does Jersey want to be French? It’s a genuine question as no idea about that particular part of the world.

DuncinToffee · 18/07/2026 13:58

The English and French players could show unity against racism, European unity as a fuck you Trump

KittyWilkinson · 18/07/2026 14:04

A Trump is a Tosser banner at the end of the match?
Free speech under the Constitution works both ways.

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · 18/07/2026 14:17

Or make us call The English Channel La Manche.

KittyWilkinson · 18/07/2026 14:23

They did sell Exocets to the Argies during the Falklands.
Not that I have a long memory and nurse a grudge or anything...

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · 18/07/2026 14:36

Our fans should unfurl a banner, "Calais is English" or remember Agincourt.

Jersey was part of France 6,000 years ago.

Just looked that up. They supplied them before the conflict and then Mitterand placed an embargo on them. But the missile technical team were still in Argentina.

Casualty on HMS Sheffield

How France helped both sides in the Falklands War

France gave the UK a lot of help during the Falklands War, but a technical team in Argentina helped the country fire Exocet missiles at British warships.
