However, when I looked them up at Companies House, they were dissolved in 2000! Could this just mean that the company was dissolved but is in the process of setting up again, or that they've been taken over, or ...

I'm reluctant to send off my details if it's a scam, but how can you tell?!!

DO they have an active website?

Are you sure that the company name you looked up at companies House is the actual trading company that the business is run through? You may have done a search on a company that they do not use any more to trade through and they now trade through a company with a similar name.
