How easy is it to do your own tax return?

Run small business (B&B). Have paid acct to do tax return for last 3 years, but had a bad year financially last year and don't really want to fork out £500

I present all accts fully notated etc so it's really just the actual return bit.

I'm not thick - surely I should be able to do this.........

Any comments or thoughts?

I do mine, but then I do not run a business.

Surely it cannot be beyond that difficult? Get the form and have a go..

dweezle, that seems excessive we paid just over £400 between us for accountant last year, we also run a B&B.

Melted - think I will

Five - I told acct we were not going to use her due to big drop in income, hoping she might say she'd drop fees, but no go.

I reckon she could probably do the return in an hour with the info I give her, so it did seem a lot.

Depends how your set up.

Partnership / Sole Trader I'd do it as its easy.

Ltd company things start to get more complex so probably best to get the acc to do it.
