Financial help with twins

I wonder if the collective knowledge of Mumsnet can give me some info? I know a young married couple, L & M, who have 6mth old twins. They are both about to graduate from uni and L (the mum) starts work in Sept. M will look after the babies until he hopefully gets a job, too. What sort of financial help is available for them? With both of them working FT they will probably earn about £35-40K a year. I guess they can claim child tax credit - what about help with nursery fees etc? Over to you, Mumsnetters!

Family Tax Credit includes a component for childcare costs, and it's partly based on how many children you have. Definitely worth your friends running thru the numbers on the online Inland Revenue worksheet to get a preliminary estimate.

try asking this question on www.twinsclub.co.uk - bound to be someone with an answer for you there.

they might be able to get help with nursery fees thru their local council, can't think of anything else - sorry.

Our nursery does a discount for "multiples", I should think most do, as there is often a reduction for the second and subsequent children of a family.
