Negotiating rates with overseas publisher

I wonder if anyone here can give me any advice on this fairly quickly - I have been working regularly with a publisher in Austria, but for the latest piece of work I've got from them, there seems to be a chance to suggest a higher rate than they've been paying. I'm a bit uncertain how to pitch my response. They're a good client but one of my lowest paying ones. I could get almost double their rate. Do I mention this, or just try to nudge them a little higher? I don't want to lose the work, but I don't want to be so tentative that they just brush me off.

I'm also a bit nervous about doing all this in German as I'm always convinced I'll miss some nuance or other and sound terribly rude!

Any ideas? Thanks!
