Another Maternity Leave Question - Can ML be extended at the 11th hour?

I am due to go back to work next week, having taken 6 months off. I have formally advised work and have received a letter from them confirming my new working arrangements (4 days instead of 5 and an alteration of my hours). The changes are to be reviewed 12 weeks after I go back.

I assume now that I cannot legally extend my maternity leave - is this the case? (I don't actually want to btw, it is just a debate I am having with my MIL at the moment)

You have to give 8 weeks' notice of a change, so no, at one week you couldn't really now extend. Hope that helps the debate!

Thank you. That is as I suspected. Hopefully this will help explain to her that whilst I appreciate it is very upsetting for her that DD is going into childcare, it is a fait accompli.
