Hi there, I am currently trying to build my own site, but am getting myself rather frustrated. As a single mum, I'm not wanting to spend loads getting it done(hence my own effort)but I really would appreciate any help...please?

Thanks
x

It depends on what you want to achieve and what you want to do with the site (and also how you want to host it).

If all you use the site for is posting articles and pictures, the solution is far different from if you want to make an e-commerce website. Do you want forums, galleries, events calenders?

Up to now I've generally customized a Wordpress install and theme to meet what I want (which is post articles and have a photo gallery) and I'm fairly happy.

Something like Drupal or Joomla might work better for large sites.

I'm guessing you are not wanting to write the php/html by hand

secretme2 did you know that you can use Microsoft to create a free website?

You don't need to know how to program websites or anything like that. You can also get your own email to match the website -
eg you could get www.secretme2.co.uk and an email of [email protected].

Have a look here.

I have used this to set up a website but the content is not there yet it is a current work in progress.

The other thing which you could consider instead or as well is a blog. I think that wordpress is the best one. This is something which I am looking into at the moment.

Good luck!

what kind of site are you building? and what have you been using to build it?

do you want something heavily customised, or happy to use an existing template?

Have you looked at the Mr.Site do-it-yourself package? It is very easy to build your site using templates and you can incorporate Paypal for a shopping cart. I managed to do mine with it and it's working just fine for me.

I've just downloaded this free web design software from Serif, I've looked at a few freebies and this one is straightforward to use and creates quite impressive results.

I couldn't be happier with mrsite.com, so handy. Lots of different templates to choose from.
This is mine www.sarahhickey.com

I think you can start at just £35 a year. I pay about 110 a year I think, but that's with all bells and whistles.
