Tuiesday wednesay thursday is fab

As you alway get a long weekend

You have monday morning to catch up on everything and cook for the next three days if you wish, and afternoon to go to the park, library.

Fridays you can catch up before the weekend and meet friends - as most people seem to choice not to work friday it will be the day you can have coffee etc.

Also long term when your dc go to school teacher trainign days are alway monday and friday so you don't need to get cover for years and years.

avoid mondays- most bank holidays are mondays- I always ended up either payingh the cm double (as it was a bh) or paying her singly but not sending ds (as it was his regular day)

LowLevelWhinging · 09/05/2010 21:22

I used to work Mon/Tues/Wed and it felt like such a lovely short week!

I can't actually remember what happened re BH's. I think I was only allowed the pro rata time off, so, say my days were 8 hours, then I would only get half of that, 4 hours, off as I was on a half time contract. So, as the office was shut on a BH, I would actually owe them 4 hours work.

Follow that?

Best not to work Mondays because whenever there is a bank holiday you have to pay back hours

for me it was easier to get childcare on a Friday , also end of week better to work because colleagues tend to be in a better mood as the weekend approaches

so I'd say wed thurs fri

my ideal would be to gave a day off to recover tho cos my dcs got very tired in daycare but I know I'm in a minority and no one else would agree but my ideal would be mon wed and Friday

Depends on how your employer deals with bank hols. At ours, pt'ers get an extra 8 days on top of their annual leave, then have to take one every time a bank holiday falls on one of your work days then you have to take a day of leave. Works in my favour because I work Wed-Fri and very few bank hols fall in my working week.

I've just gone back and do tues, wed, fri. It was my cm that gave me those days as that's what she had free. I love it! Monday off is great as older dc's go to school and dh to work, and I get to catch up on anything missed from the weekend (domestic crap that is!)

Friday is nice at work as it's dress down day, there are the odd pub lunch and it's generally more fun. People leave early so I get a good hour or two of peace at the end of my week to finish off stuff.

Also I never do more than 2 days at work

Montifer · 09/05/2010 22:17

I went back from mat leave doing a split week, (mon, thurs, fri) and at the time thought it was great not having to do more than 2 consecutive days.
However, our team meetings are on tuesdays so I always felt out of the loop, despite minutes of meeting being available.

Have now changed to weds, thurs, fri and much prefer having the continuity. I think not working on a monday is great and makes me think weds, thurs, fri is preferable to mon, tues, weds for that reason.
BHs are pro rata-ed at my work so that wasn't too much of a consideration although the financial impact could be significant if you are paying for childcare.

In summary, I would say bear in mind any important days specific to your work place and also IME 3 days together is better than a split week.

If bank holiday don't fall on your normal work day, i.e. you don't work Monday then nowadays they get added to your holiday entitlement which is 4 weeks plus bank holidays pro rata. i.e everyone gets 5.6 week pro rated for part time.

I work Tues-Fri so nearly full time but love my Mondays off. I would do Tues-Thurs its ideal and better to do the three days together for continuity.

If you dp works full time and you want a long weekend most people, due to the way travel and hotels work - they take the extra two days on a friday and monday.

that is why it is a long weekend

Yes you can have four days wednesday to sunday but that isn't a long weekend and it doesn't have the advantage of cheap get aways

To be fair I don't ever get the same ssunday night feeling that I used to get going back now ona Monday night.

i think it is cos I have got everything ready for dc to go back to school and still have monday to get me sorted and then back to work tuesday - it is all in one night - -i enjoy sunday eve.

Ivykaty44 · 10/05/2010 11:59

I have my annual leave in hours - they add the hours 4 hours for each b/h to my leave

So even though I don't work Mondays I get my b/h allowence.

Plus if I ever need an afternoon of and not till 2pm I can just take 3 hours not 4.

Bramshott · 10/05/2010 12:06

Another vote for Tues, Wed, Thurs. I use Monday to catch up on jobs / clean the house, and Friday for coffee with friends / reading in school.

IHeartKingThistle · 28/05/2010 20:59

I have been doing Monday, Thursdya, Friday for 2 years and I like some things about it -I get 2 weekends, my days off are together, I get to leave on Monday afternoon saying 'See you Thursday!' and working on a Friday is nice as people are more relaxed. But other things I don't like - never getting a long weekend really, feeling out of the loop on a Thursday, oh and all my part-time friends have their days off Mondays or Fridays so often no-one around on my days off. Also I've found that in my area lots of toddler groups and classes etc are on Mondays and Fridays, I guess because most part-timers have those days off! That could just be my area though.

sharbieinbackofthequattro · 28/05/2010 21:00

I agree - working Friday is good everyone's happy and relaxed, the opposite to Monday.
