Betterware distributer's? *SaintGeorge* Can I ask?

Any betterware workers can you help? I just started to day and put out my first set of catalogues. I was reading through the order sheet and it says you can pay by visa etc. Is that just if they phone their order direct or do I take payments by cards as well? There isn't anywhere on form for card details and the coordinator didn't mention cards so I guess i don't. I don't want to look like an idiot straight away.

Any other time saving or order inducing tips?

I would give you a time saving tip - dont do it!! my sister did and made next to nothing for all those hours trapesing the streets. I work for USBORNE BOOKS. I work private parties, toddler groups etc..and take my little son with me. But you can also sell into schools and libraries earning 24%-28% commission to start. What details do you put on cheques from their bank cards?
What do you carry your catalogues in?

yes I guess I am biased about Usborne but having a good time of it! with regard to cheques you need to take the long number from the centre of the card making sure it is a cheque guarentee card. then the expiry date and maybe the 3 security digits on the signature strip too these days. also add the address

I did a Betterware round when I was a student. I didn't take VISA so that must be a new thing. I just used to put the catalogues in my car and carry enough for each street.

I made a decent amount for the limited time I out in.

I personally wouldn't do Usborne books as although they are lovely they are very overpriced. Most people I know say they can buy them cheaper from The Book People or they buy books from cheap outlets like Booksale. Usborne have been to 2 NCT events I go to and didn;t sell a thing.

Thanks again, I think i would be good at selling at parties and stuff but don't like the idea of chasing parties all the time. I sell sweets and toys on a stall at fairs and it is such a pain phoning all the schools to see if they are having a fair and trying to track down the orgainisers for fairs.

I am going to trade at local sunday market and let the trailer advertise so people can contact me if they want me at their fair.

I find it easy to sell the books, once you get a catalogue in someones hand then away you go, all the money is really in selling to schools and libraries though and at shows and fetes, I find private parties good for a bit of pocket money between the big events.
Admittedly the books are a bit more expensive than publishers like the book people but they do have far more educational value. There are a lot of books now with 2 sets of commentary for different ages as the child grows and also about 200 titles with internet links

I think the books are great and always used them when I was training to be a nursery nurse.

When selling at schools do you sell to school its self, staff to take home or parents. I went for an interview once for a company that puts packs of sample books into workplaces and you go back to pick up a week later. It looked good as no outlay and good prices/ products. It was the scale of it that put me off, they wanted you to work full time, use a van or large estate and have storage space of at least a garage for the TRUCK to deliver to. I couldn't manage those 3 things so didn't take it further.

There are several ways to do it. You can sell direct to schools for use in libraries and for orders over £500 the school gets 60% extra in free books (ie £300 +). or you can get full colour leaflets that the teachers send home for parents to order from and then the school claim the free books although the parents paid. or goto parents evenings. You can also leave packs in offices. but there is absolutely no pressure the only stipulation os that you sell £100 of books sometime between Sept & Dec - the peak time of year, otherwise you are deactivated and cannot rejoin for 6 months. you do not have to give your kit back or anything the books are yours to keep even if you dont place a single order. It's such a simple system but all these internet scams and p[yramid things really put people off.

The outlay for August starter kit is £38 for £200 of titles plus catalogues etc.... They are yours whatever although they do also offer a 14 day money back guarentee.

you dont need any stock outlay other than your kit - although i have added some titles myself anyway - they give you half price options each month and also free books for hitting sales targets if you want to. I have 3 boxes of books that sit under my spare bed and then just place orders on line (you can yake card payments too) Anyway I am going to stop harping on about it now as I guess you see how much I enjoy it...

Hi Skribble - sorry I missed this, just got back from hols.

If a customer wants to pay by credit card you can ring it through to head office on their behalf - either do it on the spot using their phone, or take the details and get it done before going back and delivering the order. I haven't had one request in over 2 years though.

Thanks SaintGeorge. I didn't get any credit card requests and I'm not doing it again. The area I had was mostly old dears who take forever to answer door. I feel bad selling them over priced stuff.
