I was wondering about doing some voluntary work in my community but don't really know where to begin/what's available. Where you would start?

Do you have a favourite local charity that you would like to volunteer for? If so give them a ring and find out what volunteering opportunities they offer.

Otherwise look at it from a point of view of what skills you have or what you would like to do and approach a charity or organisation that would benefit.

eg. local hospice, Homestart, animal charities, retirement homes, meals on wheels, befriending groups, mentoring (youths, young offenders, those at risk of offending), homeless charites or hostels, hospital visiting etc

Also some towns have a local volunteer bureau - you could look in the phone book, or Google to find out.
