Working part time - how does it REALLY work out?

I have seen a part time job. They have stated how many total hours they want but have asked what hours would work best.

I can spread it over 4 or 5 days, but it will make childcare a bit of a juggling act - and holidays will be a 'mare?

If you have done this, how have you made it work?

Do you have family around you to help out? I juggle nursery with my mum helping out and working part time. I do wake up each morning and have to think about what is happening that day, but think the net result is that every body has a little bit of every thing if you get my meaning.

I found that working whole days is much easier, and is also more cost-efficient if you are using a nursery - they often charge on a whole or half day basis only. So mine still charged a whole day even if I collected them at 2.30pm. This arrangement also means you can also make the most of your non-working days.

That was when dc were pre-school age, I now have a different job where I work 9-2 M-F which is great as it fits round the dc, but it honestly feels like working fulltime.

Good luck.
