Hi
I am employed as a bank support worker by organisation that owns several homes across the same region dealing with learning disabilities.
Although as a bank worker I can go and work at any of these homes I have only ever worked at the one which is basically a 5 min car drive away.
The other homes are quite a distance to go and I have to think about the travelling and petrol costs to me.
I have been getting plenty of work of late at this home and have been employed by this organisation for 2 years now.
I have been reliable and worked well.
They knew from day 1 that I was a blood relative of somebody already working there and its never been an issue until now.
I got a phone call Tuesday froma senior at the home saying that a memo had come out from head officer stating that relatives are no longer able to work together in the same place and that they have to act on it immediately and that all my shifts at that home are cancelled I was due in the next two days along with other shifts booked later on in the month.
Nothing was addressed personally to me explaining this.
I was told by the manger of the home that I shouldn,t take it personally it was happening at other homes and that I am more than welcome to work at any other homes.
She told me to ring the next nearest as she said there is plenty of shifts available there.
I phoned this other home up but they have nothing at the moment.
So I am left with no work unless I am prepared to travel miles to other homes.
I myself would have thought that it would have been fair to have given me a months notice and let me do the shifts that I already had booked.
So what do you think.
