How do I work out my holiday?

I'm entitled to 25 days per year pro rata. I'm a part time, term time only employee (university term so shorter than school terms). I work 2 or 3 12 hour shifts per week, occasionally more. Is there a simple way for me to work out how much holiday I have earned, ie 1 hour holiday for every x hours i work?

There are various different ways you could do it, but you need to check your contract to see whether your actual holiday entitlement is specified, and if not, how it says it should be calculated. If your contract or handbook or policy doesn't say how they calculate part time holiday you should ask your employer to work it out for you according to the calculations they normally use and let you know.

Thanks. I don't have my contract to hand but i don't think it's specified other than 25 days pro rata. I've asked my employer for a figure but like to be able to double check it myself, not that i don't trust them but i work for an individual not a company so things aren't always as accurate as they could be!

Just make sure they give you details of how it's worked out, then if you aren't sure you can come back here and say what they've said.
