accountant recommendation?

I'm based in London but am about to set up my own limited company and do some agency work (which is why I need to set up a company, rather than go for Sole Trader status instead).

I need an accountant & I figure an accountant out of London would be cheaper [I wouldn't need to see them face to face anyway. Or would I?]

Any recommendations for an accountant who specialises in small businesses would be much appreciated.

Thank you!

Is this company just for you to do agency work through? If so, with respect you don't need an accountant who specialises in small businesses, you need one that specialises in contractors.

Google "contractor accounts" - there are lots which operate online and by post, expect to pay £500-£1000 a year. If you need something cheaper than this, assuming you are not in the West End look in the local paper - prices in London suburbs (particularly where there are a lot of small builders and the like and so a lot of available work) are likely to be as good as anywhere else. Ask them to explain IR35 to you: if they do this in a way you can understand, you will probably be OK!

I know an excellent accountant based near Rugby who also travels regularly to London - lots of my freelance friends use him. Have a look here and ask for Rob.
