... you had a 3yo and your DH worked shifts including night shifts and the job you were really interested in involved travel and overnight stays away from home?

tbh probably not, unless you have got some very flexible childcare. I suppose if you earned sufficient to get a nanny then you could do it, but otherwise I think life would get far too complicated!
