Moving from manager to PA?

Hi, I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice. I will be going back to work in 4 months and thinking about my options. There will be a job coming up soon as a PA for somebody I really admire and respect and would love to work for and I'm thinking of going for it. The thing is, I've never been a PA as my current job is a managerial position and I'm not sure if it will be right for me however I would love a change of direction as there is nowhere I want to go in my current role. The PA job is a part time job though which I would love and I'm really keen to work for somebody new as my boss is a bit of a nightmare. My boss fought me all the way when I asked for part time after the birth of my first child and let me have half a day off a week after telling me he would do all he could to help me out at first so I'm not keen to repeat those discussions with him again. Has anybody been in a similar situation?

Well, you won't know unless you try.

Who would you be working for? Are they nice and do you get on with them?

I'm a PA and I do enjoy it for the most part. Mind you, depending on who you work for it can be tough and demanding. To be good you need to be one step ahead all the time. It's not the easy 'little job' everyone seems to think it is!

Sounds like you want this job. Apply so you can find out more and then see what happens.

You might decide you don't want it or they might decide you're not right for them. But apply any way.

Could you look at a secondment? Then if you don't like it you could return to your old role?

Thanks for the advice, I think I will go for it.
