Redundancy

Ive been made redundant from a senior management job and am a single mother of 2 having being left 2 years ago by my husband. Im feeling very vunerable and have no idea who to tell and what i should be doing to ensure I am getting all the financial help I can. I dont get anything from my ex has he hasnt had a job for ages...cant believe it just as I was getting on my feet and starting to get used to being divorced...
Any advice on what to do next about benefits , credit cards, mortgage etc..dropping salary and having to move seems very drastic at this point.

sorry about your job, what rotten luck

I don't know much about benefits but didn't want this to go unacknowledged - it might be better to take any available job (even if pay is lower) and then look into tax credits to top up your income and help towards mortgage? am on my own too and know it is not easy but think it is better (psychologically at least) to be in work than not

You need to go to the Job Centre the day your redundancy takes effect to register to get Job Seekers allowance and to get the government to pay you NI. If you do not then when you start working again you will have to make a back payment.

I believe the Job Cente will refer you to the Contribution Agency (formally the DSS) about benefits available. I would take a look at their web site.

Sorry to hear that.

In addition to the above, your (soon to be ex-)employer should help out with training, CV and interview technique, etc. Get as much support as you can from them before you're made redundant.

I'm being made redundant and there are whispers of independent finanacial advisors being brought in to help us all out. Maybe they could organise similar for you?
