Have I got this right? Maternity Allowance

I'm only 9 weeks pg, but looking into Maternity Allowance already.

I have been self-employed since 2005, paid Class 2 NI contributions by direct debit, and send of my tax return when due.

Having looked through the DWP website and various threads on here am I right in thinking that as I have paid my Class 2's I won't need to submit any details on income, ie/ their stipulated average £30 per week income. I also don't give myself a payslip, the income just goes into a savings account.

I'm a bit concerned otherwise as this past year has been a bit hit and miss in the blacksmithing world and some months I had no income at all. I've never applied for any other benefits as my DHs income covers our outgoings, my income is just holidays.

Am really hoping I can just apply without needing the extra paperwork

Afraid I can't offer any advice but I'm hoping the same thing and it seemed to be confirmed by a phone call to R&C.
With any luck someone will be along soon with good news for us both

If you've been on DWP you've probably seen the technical guidance, which confirms that as long as you paid your Class 2 contributions you'll be fine.

brilliant, that's what I'd thought, but then started to doubt myself, as you do...

thanks for your replies
