Hi I wonder if anyone can tell me what I need to give to employer. My 1st day of sick was last Friday. I had a days leave on Monday and do not work Tuesday/Wednesday though I was unwell still these days. I had cyst removed on Friday so couldn't go into work. I have also taken tonsillitis during this so am now off with this. Rang work yesterday to say had tonsillitis and dr was concerned enough to make appointment again for Thursday morning and that I would be off rest of week. I am off next Monday on leave again (I know taking up rest of hols before end of month) so am not due back til next Thursday. What would I need to cover myself for this week.

You can self certificate for 1 full week. so On thursday you will need to get a sick note from your GP

What Wonka said.

Some companies also let you self-certify for longer, but it's unusual. It's normally a week. It shouldn't be shorter because most doctors won't issue notes if you've been off less than a week (they'd be overrun!)

I assume I will be well enough by next Thursday to go back to work. Will it not look a bit silly to ask dr. for a line for 2 days?

No it won't if you explain to the doctor that you've been off a full week already. They're quite used to it.
