Hope someone can advise me?

I didnt get paid on time (apparantly my timesheet got lost in cyber space!) Therefore I recieved my pay a day later, consequencely I recieved 2 payment fees from my bank A & L who (very kindly) paid 2 direct debits for me! Im fuming, (at the bank & at my employer )
I can`t afford to lose £50 into thin air.
Is it possible to reclaim the £50 from my employer.
I am going to send the bank letter to my employer, am I entitled to recieve this back?

OOps..consequently

Ring the bank, explain what happened, if this is th first time this has happened they will take the charges off as a good will gesture.

Then move any direct debits to a couple of days after your pay date so it doesnt happen again.

Tell your employer what has happened and ask them to make sure your timesheet goes in on time in future.

I rang the bank and they have said they wont refund the charges, Ill ring them again and see if they can. I cant change the direct debit to a different time, as its for the tv licence. Funny enough we should get paid at the end of the month not the begining. It happened last time with the bookkeeper before, so they changed to someone new!!

well TV is not a lot, about £12 is it? i would make sure there is enough money left in the bank at the end of the month to cover it, just in case.

Ok, Some progress. The bank have offered to refund £25 and then someone from customer services will hopefully contact me regarding the other charge, so we will see if they can refund the other charge.
I usually have enough funds left at the end of the month to cover anything like this. And the ironic thing is I had the funds in another account. I was told by my employer I would be paid that day. aghhh . Surely my employer is breaking their contract to pay me at a certain time.

i am not sure about your employers, have a read of your contract to see if there is anything about what day you should get paid on? if so then i think you could be having stern words with them, to make sure this doesnt happen again, bloody annoying isnt it?

It just shows how bloody incompetent some people are at their jobs. So Im spending my Sat morn, sorting out their up.

As far as I know, you couldn't reclaim the bank charges. You could claim for the salary if hadn't been paid (but it has now) and I guess potentially for interest (a couple of pence for a day's delay). I think that the bank charges would be seen as your own problem.

As a practical point for the future, can you organise your DD's for a day or two after pay day? That way you have a bit of leeway in case of transfer problems.

I would speak to your employer - surely most would see this as their responsibility as the charges would not have occured if the salary had been paid when it was supposed to? It is a loss directly due to their failure to pay you on your contracted date.

Even if the strict legal position is a bit unclear, a good employer would refund these charges without question. I know this has happened at places I have worked at.
