Help - change to working hours

Hi

I've worked for my employer for 13 years. He is issuing new job descriptions and my job will include being on the " on call rota ", this involves going into work at 10pm to midnight probably once a fortnight. As I am a single mom this new change is impossible for me and I will be demoted. Can my employer do this?

Please help I'm so stressed and disappointed.
