Hearing back on maternity allowance claim

sheeplikessleep · 26/01/2010 14:15

I sent off the maternity allowance form at the beginning of January, when I was 27 weeks pregnant.

I know these things tend to take time, but I just wondered how long others have found the whole process to take (in terms of hearing back)?

Even though I fulfill all of the criteria (paid class 2 NI, registered as self-employed and worked for 26+ weeks of 66 weeks in test period), I still would like to see it on paper that I'm going to get it.

Thanks.

I'd leave it for another couple of weeks and then chase, chase, chase! I applied for mine in the March to start in May (silly me) I had DS2 in July and they started paying it in October

Oh no, paying in October! That's ridiculous. That's even worse than I was imagining

I've just sent off mine for maternity leave when I have DS2 who's due in April, and will chase if I've not heard by March.

When I had DS1 in 2007 it took about 3 or 4 months for it to come through and I had to chase a number of times via phone and email. It will come through but it's worth chasing if you've not heard anything within a couple of weeks.

Mine came through much quicker. I live in london. I applied in November time and had baby in January. The payment came through in January as I wanted.

Do chase - check they've got the right info.

Mine was really speedy - I sent it off on 1st December '09 when I stopped working, and received confirmation by post a week or so later. The first payment was in my account on the 18th. I was very impressed. There are different offices to send your form too, depending on where in the country you live; perhaps they vary in efficiency.
