Freelance accountant

Long story short... I've always worked in accounts/finance but am not qualified. I've recently returned to work and though I love the work I hate being away from DD for such long hours (up to 12 hours a day) and would love to do some kind of freelance accountancy work.

Does anyone do this and what qualifications would I need?

Hi Plumm

You don't actually need any qualifications to market yourself as an accountant - it's not a protected name like 'doctor' or 'lawyer'.

It will make you more credible though if you do have something. Have a look at ATT. There are also bookkeeping qualifications but I don't know what they are.

The other thing you should think about is PI insurance in case you mess up and someone decides to sue you!

the other thing is they've bought in some regulations to do with money laundering so you need to register and pay a few hundred £ for that.
