Is the fee for writing stuff for the web that much lower than for in-print?

I have been commissioned to write various features some of which are accessed free by readers, others are subscription only but the fee to me is roughly half of the going-rate for non web writing.

It depends on the publication. Some web work is pretty well paid - certainly better paid than some print publications I've worked for. I'd negotiate if I were you...
