Am feeling very thick right now... but just can't work this out!!

There has been an emergency at Dh's work and he's been asked whether he would work Christmas Day and Boxing Day, where he normally gets all public holidays as part of his paid leave entitlement.

The deal being offered is doubletime plus a day off in lieu.

Assuming for simplicity's sake that he gets paid £1 an hour and does an 8 hour day each day - does that mean he will get:

£16 - ie just double his hourly rate - plus the TOIL day.

or

£24 - ie the pay he would have got for those days as holiday PLUS the above?

I think the £16, he thinks the £24.

Anyone?

double time is usually double the usual hourly rate. but if he doesn't take toil and gets paid instead of day off then he is right

£16 and one day's TOIL.

Double pay and time-off. But really he already has the time-off as he has Christmas Day off anyway. What they are saying is that he can have his Christmas time-off at a later date and receive double time for working.
