Please help!! I applied for a job with the prison service as a Psychological Assistant almost 2 months ago and I have been contacted for a Recruitment Assessment Day. I am absolutely terrified as I have never had a professional interview like this before. I so desperately want this job and I know I would be able to do it quite well but I'm so scared I will mess up the interview.

Anyone know what I can expect or offer any advice? Thanks

Anyone? I've just been contacted by the second prison I applied to for the same position. This time they want a 10 min presentation entitled "Once a criminal, always a criminal".

I'm terrified - someone please help!

Calm down!

They sound scary, these sorts of days but IMO they give more opportunity to show off your skills. The day should comprise a number of work-related activities so instead of talking yourself into the job, you can demonstrate your skills.

There should be a variety of informal and informal parts to the day, and they'll tell you that you aren't being assessed during lunch etc but of course you'll still be under observation.

I don't work for HMPS but I do design and run these sorts of events and fairly often people tell me that despite their nerves they actually end up enjoying themselves.

A well-designed event will not necessarily penalise you if you cock-up in one area, so don't panic. Just relax and be yourself.

Good luck!
