Unemployment - Can we get benefits short term?

My dh's job is finishing this week after 13 years and there may well be a delay of a few weeks or more before he starts another one. Can we claim any benefits?

Why is he finishing his job?

He is being made redundant. We have known about it for a long time and he thought he had another job lined up. But there is either a delay (we hope) or it has fallen through and he will need to find another one. Either way, we are without an income for a bit.

I think it depends on if hes going to get a pay out/pension etc, and how much it is. Dont forget to tell Inland Revenue about your change in circumstances.Do you already recieve Working tax credit or Child tax credit? If you do it will make a diferences.

Have a look at IR & Department of Works and Pensions sites (I think you would need to look at Job Seekers Allowance). At the very least he should get his NI paid.
