I've just had a phone call saing I'm ment to be at work! I had written it in my dary wrong. I work nights at a home for people with learning disabilities.
I don't drive, I've had some wine. My little daughter has been ill and is asleep in bed. My Husband has gone out with his mates and dosn't take his mobile, so there's no one else who can help and even if they could, I've been drinking.
I am only on bank staff at the home and so I won't be paid, but that's the least of my worrys.
I feel really ashamed that I've let them down big time. I don't know what they'll do.

God that's unfortunate. How much of this have you explained to them already? Can you volunteer for an extra shift this week as apology?

I would be totally honest with them as you have nothing to lose. Mistakes happen, we are only human, it's what you do next that will determine how pissedboff they are.

Thanks, yes I'd do an exra shift no problem. It is a shame, as I really like working with the girl who's on tonight. I'm not sure if they'll use agency or get one of the day staff to stay on. Either way, they aren't going to be very happy with me.

Oh and I explained all this to the girl who phoned.
We actually saw each other in town the other day and she asked me when I was next on, and I said saturday. She said she thought I was on Friday. I wish she'd let me know then.

I've been in a similar position so I know how you feel, it's just awful. But it's done now so focus on thinking up ways you could make amends rather than fretting about what's happened. A personal apology face to face with whoever did your shift and your manager, perhaps doing a particularly unpleasant one of theirs. You are just going to have to eat a large slice of humble pie and triple check the rota from here in to make sure it doesn't happen again.

Thank you, It's all o.k now. I'm working tonight at short notice to make up for it. I've appologised, and they seemed fine.
