Christmas Parties - Whay do you do?

I run my own limited company but I'm essentailly self employed as there is only me working in it. DH has a proper job at a big company and has been out every Friday n December on various office parties.

I'm seething with jealousy slightly miffed to be missing out. So if you're self employed or freelance what do you do? Is a Christmas party tax deductible?

Hi potplant, I'm self employed too and I must admit, I have never thought that I was missing out on not going to office Christmas parties ;) However, my DH is also self employed and we both work out so neither of us are going to any parties ;)

How about arranging a private Christmas party, just for for friends, not people you work with?

ps What do you do for a living? Judging from your edit post, we might be in the same industry.

Marketing services.

I had a girls Xmas night out already, but nothing else planned. I work on my own so I can't even got for a lunchtime drink without looking like a lush!

I'm just miffed because DH seems to be out all the time on various things, the people he gets the train with night out, the boys who go to football night out, the boys at work night out, his section night out ..............

I'm all misty eyed about office Christmas parties of the past.

DH has organised a freelancers' Christmas meal for the last few years - rounding up all the freelancers he can think of locally for a curry or similar.

Goes down very well - it's a chance to moan about work, swap info and generally feel like we had colleagues for a night. After all, there are no official Christmas meals in the ranks of the self-employed so you have to make your own!

Ha ha potplant, I can't totally relate to your miffed state! My DH has all sorts of boozy lunches and nights out planned (the old team's xmas do, the new team's xmas do, the 3 muskateer's xmas do!! any excuse.) and I have nothing

Dh works for a bailed out bank financial institution and they have cut down on the Xmas party excess so its staff only, so I don't even get to go to his official work one.

No time off when you're sick, no one to gossip with, no stationery to nick and now no Christmas parties. Boo Hoo for me (and other freelancers)
