Umbrella Companies - URGENT PLEASE!

Hurrah! I've finally got a contract offer, after 18 months at home, and 5 years salaried before that. But having wound up my ltd company, I'm looking at going with an umbrella until I see how things go.

So which one? Any advice/experience? Don't fancy the risky-looking tax-avoidance schemes, don't want to pay too much in fees, and really want to be able to trust the company to not suddenly fold...

parasol is popular and I use it. Online invoicing and timesheets and telephone support to set up. Only problem i had was that they were given the wrong (emergency)tax code by HMRC for one month. This wouldn't have been such an issue if they had then applied it correctly but they didn't (i.e. taxed me at 40% cumulative on that year's earnings which meant for one month I paid over 85% in tax!!) and it took a bit of effort to get them to admit they had made a mistake too. Once they did agree they quickly paid me what I was due though.

Thanks gingerwench - I was wondering about Parasol, and think I'll probably give them a go
