Training as a Doula

I'm starting training next year (well only a few weeks away now) as a Doula (very excited!)

I know what a Doula does to the extent of what they do with the parents, but I'm wondering if someone could tell me about the behind the scenes bit?

Also, wondering about the finances side of it. Not asking so much what people are earning, but more the business side of being self employed.

I know I'll probably find some of this out when I do my course but I'm interested in some different views of it and I'm training because I'm getting married in 18 months and want to be working before I do because of the money I will lose so I'm trying to work out how life is going to work.

Oooh ! Is that new?

Hi there, fellow soon-to-be-Doula.

I will also be training next year I hope. Cannot offer you any behind the scene info but re financial side of things: I believe it will take a while to get established and I suppose the work load will be up and down. Certainly nothing you can rely on. A lot of Doula's also have other jobs to support them.

Does this help? Good luck with your training!

Yeah, I've got a few things I'm looking at doing as side line. I want to train in aromatherapy, pregnancy infant and preschool massage, plus there's a few things I want to sell through my website (when I set one up). My partner works but what I will lose will be quite a drop so I need to have something. We're putting as much money as we can to the wedding to offset what I will lose as much as possible. The problem with taking on other work is being called out, so a job is out really.

When are you hoping to train and what plans do you have?

I work as a doula and maternity nanny.

Are you planning on being a birth doula, post natal doula or both?

I have found that I am really busy with post natal stuff and because I work mostly nights, I don't have time to fit the births in which is a shame as that is the reason that i became a doula

I did my training through nurturing birth.

Good luck with your training.

if you google my name, you'll find my website which may or may not help you with inspiration for your website
