How do i become a childminder?

i would love the opportunity to go back to work, but childcare is just so expensive. I used to work as a nursery nurse, and i would love to get into childminding as i could do it from home, and still look after my toddler. But i'm not really sure where to begin.

Have you approached your local social services? They gave me loads of info when I was looking for a childminder.

I work as a part-time nanny and take my son with me, that could be something to consider.

Starshine - I don't know what area you are in, but in many areas there are shortages of childminders, so there may be hefty grants available for start up costs, (first aid training, equipping your house, buying toys, insurance, etc.). I guess that depends on your area. There is quite a lot to do to get registered, but your local council will be able to provide you with a pack. Good Luck!

Thanks for all your replys! I'll get onto the social services right away!
