I'm interested in doing this - how easy is it to get into? What sort of training do you need and how many hours can one reasonably expect? And the pay?

Hi. have a look at your county council's web site. Some County Councils have specialist web pages for teaching due to the difficulty in the past with recruiting - there could well be a team you can contact to find out what's involved.

My advice would be to contact the schools you are interested in.
Most of the vacancies at our local schools have been filled with people who were known to the school or who contacted the school direct.
Training is available but the schools would be able to advise which they prefer.

Could you start helping out in a school if you can even just half an hour 1 morning a week, we have people in for 20-30 minutes just to listen to a few readers.
