What about borrowing from a bank? If they think it's a good idea too, they may stump up the cash.

KatyMac · 18/06/2005 21:58

Business Link maybe the people to talk to, they can adise about funding eg bank loans and business plans (which banks need if they are going to lend you money)

(I may have said this before to someone)

juicychops · 18/06/2005 21:59

Yeah, i suppose i could write up a business plan and think about it seriously and see if it could work. I would really love to have my own business!

im sure it would work as we have nothing like it in my area

I'm desparate to know what it is - do you need to copyright it? I think you need to post it to yourself and don't open it

Oops - Sorry

If you have an idea that you don't want anyone else to use. You write it in a letter and post it to your self. So it is postmarked with the date. Then you don't open it and then you can prove the date you had the idea.

juicychops · 18/06/2005 22:20

Thats a good idea

OP posts:
KatyMac · 18/06/2005 22:21

Is it a new idea - or something other people do - just not in your area

Skribble · 18/06/2005 22:27

Is it an invention or a service? There may be ways of starting smaller or cheaper until you get it off the ground, but this will depend on what the idea is

juicychops · 18/06/2005 22:42

Its a service. There is probably lots of different versions of this service around the country but you can have it as unique and as different as you want.

Aww....go on tell us...pleeeease

SoupDragon · 19/06/2005 07:55

Apparently the posting it to yourself thing doesn't work.

I'm thinking of posting myself a large number of unsealed envelopes in case someone comes up with a brilliant idea for me to steal

Tessiebear · 19/06/2005 08:10

LOL Soup dragon!!! I have had a friend who "invented" something and posted it to herself etc --- dont know what happened it the end - but i seriously doubt that your postmarked letter would hold up if some big company came up with the same idea

juicychops · 19/06/2005 21:36

its nothing that exciting really. My business i want to start if i could afford it is...
To buy a function hall that can be hired out to specialise in themed parties and theme nights and things like that. djs available for all kinds of music for all ocassions and catering services, decoration services, adult party games/activities depending on the type of party and costume hire available. And to hold activities in the day such as dance classes and child play groups and stuff like that. The hall would be really big with a bar and dance area, seating area and will be very modern and cool!

Great idea - but you would need tonnes of cash

DH & I looked at it about 9 yrs ago (he is a dance teacher)

But we needed about 300K and that was in Liverpool with relatively low property costs

Skribble · 20/06/2005 22:36

If there is no way to get that much funding you could try one part of the idea and grow from that.

Maybe specialised party nights in an established night club, Party decor and entertainment service, equipment hire. Mobile bar and catering. That way you can build it up increasing your inventory until you can buy your own venue.

Good luck.
