Wasnt entirely sure where to put this, i hope im alright here!

Im basically interested to know if any of you ladies earn any money baking cupcakes, brownies, cookies and the sort and selling them on, ie to delis etc or even as orders for private customers.

Basically its a question about pricing, how much do you charge for the dozen cupcakes, the large ones done in muffin sized cups rather than the traditional english little one!

Im a sahm with 3 children 4 and under so i need something to do at home that i can earn money from and without wanting to sound totally up myself i make damn fine cakes etc and have figured instead of sitting around wishing for money and success i should strive out to do something to earn the cash and give me something to be proud of myself for doing and accomplishing, i feel excited by the prospect but obviously need to think and plan.

All words of wisdom and advice would be greatly appreciated!

Good for you. I wish that I could make cakes. In fact, I would be happy to pay good money for a nut-free and egg-free birthday cake that that actually tastes good (unlike my own efforts so far...)

As you can tell, there's no cupcake making empire in my house, but can I point you in the direction of this site?

Cocoa Loco

A friend who lives a long away away sent me some of their brownies when my mum died. It was a lovely alternative to flowers and really made me feel loved. They were delicious and I thought that it might be useful for you.

Don't forget to price your labour (doing the cooking)in when you are doing costings!

And one other thought.

Why don't you do your own costings on making and selling a batch of cakes, per cake. Then check the price of one cake at somewhere like the Primrose Hill Bakery (cupcake makers to the stars if you believe their PR) and see what the difference is. Then adjust your price upwards to see what your local market will bear.

I'VE been thinking about doing this too, but I don't think there's much profit if you go down the organic route.

I think that they'd sell where I am for £1.50 or so.

Let me know if you go ahead with this. You could be the inspiration I need to chuck my tedious job and start baking!
