Dh found out yesterday that he is redundant as of Thurs.

No redundancy or payment in lieu until the estate is unfrozen, could be weeks or months so thats it zilch, he can try and start up on his own, but it's really scary in the current climate.

He has an appt with C.A.B tomorrow, but I dont think there is anything we can do.

Yes NL, whilst I sympathise with his Family, we have been dumped right in it.

I thought the executors could make payments from an estate even in the case of a sudden death? Who told your husband there would be nothing for an age - was it a solicitor? Might be worth posting this in legal as well and the CAB is a great idea. I know there is a government scheme to pay redundancy if your company goes bust - because dh was able to claim from it.

So - the job he had is gone, one way or the other. You just have to grit your teeth and keep going. He should sign on on Friday - all claims for help with anything - council tax etc are dated to the date you sign on not any other date so he needs to do that asap. It's coming up to Christmas so there will be casual work in shops available - would a basic sort of job like that help do you think - both financially and for mental wellbeing?

He needs to work on his CV now, get it up to date and get it out there. Now is the time to ring everyone he knows who might possibly have a contact for work as well - find out what's going on. get his name out there. He needs to generate leads and then follow them up - it works!

Finances - if you are going to go overdrawn, ring the bank now and arrange something. Don't be frightened of that - they are not going to turn up and take your furniture because he's lost his job. It happens, it will get fixed, that's it.

Look on here for the budget food threads - there are some really good ideas on there and it will help you to feel more in control as well.

Just cling together - this is a very stressful time but you will get through it as a unit. Hold hands and move forward - together against the world and believe me you will look back on this time one day and think 'that was hard but we did ok'. Good Luck!

Executers can make emergency payments, and this will fall into such a category. You need to tactfully ask who the executers are and then speak directly to them, rather than the family. Hopefully at least one of the executers is a solicitor???

I thought that was the case with an estate!

Thank you, it seems the company was in debt, and the accounts have been frozen until probate?? and although we are a priority debt we have to wait in line until things are sorted, not good when you need the money now!!

We have been told it should be sorted before Xmas, but thats not definite.

Dh has been contacting the old clients to see if they will keep him on and if enough will he will take the plunge and go self employed (landscape gardener & garden maintenance. So fingers crossed.

I see - yes if money is owed to the Inland Revenue etc that does mean there's a strict order of priority. Hope you hear soon and in the mean time his plan sounds like a good one - lots of luck with that!
