TAX returns - online or postal...help!

DH has literally just registered as self employed (13th oct). He has worked, I think, 3 days since then (it's weather dependent) and I have just realised that 31/10 is the deadline for postal tax returns. We haven't even received anything from HMRC apart from an email. Are we supposed to project earnings until April? In the circs, would it be more sensible to submit it online in January? What is the difference? Isn't online easier?

OR is this the deadline for last year?

Thanks!

this is the deadline for last year. relax - you've got plenty of time to get the accounts sorted in April and then your tax return done afer that.
