What does a promo girl do?

I know it sounds silly, but I have seen jobs on Gumtree for promo girls and I imagine it to be in a club, but there are day time jobs as well. So if anyone has done this before would be interested to know what is involved?

I did it at college- it involved mainly giving out leaflets/flyers/samples to the general public on the street. It was easy money tbh. I would join a few agencies so you know you will get paid.
